  • Epiphany

Had a epiphany at my counselors this week.

Each dog I have, especially the beagles have been less trained than the previous and I think it has been because I actually have spent less time training.

I am attempting to fix that .

  • Dulce’s First Conformation point

We had a fun day. She showed the best she has shown for me. We were the only 12-18 and took first place. We went back in the ring and took Winner's Bitch.

The back in the ring. The male took Beat of Winners and we got Best of Opposite Sex. There were three specials, all males.

    It was quite fun.

We had gone to Mississippi to make a major and to visit my family. My birthday is Sunday.

The major broke and two bitches who only needed majors pulled – leaving us with a single and our first point.

We will be showing tomorrow and I plan to go to Glen Rose and show both days.

My plan is to stay close to home and she what we can.

  • Good conformation weekend

I got what I wanted this weekend – some time in the ring to figure things out.  And that happened this weekend.  We were the only ones in 12-18 months both days, so that put it back in the ring a second time each time, and gave me a chance to figure the whole thing out.  Every other time, we’ve come in second in the class and we were done.

I think we are both moving well in the ring, but we still have some work to do on the stacking thing.  Especially on the table.  I did a lot of my less is more, and that helped the stress level.

I’m entered next week in Jackson, and I’m going to enter Glen Rose.  Right now, the plan is to enter any show that we can go to without getting a hotel room (though I’m thinking about staying in Glen Rose) and which doesn’t conflict with agility.  There is one weekend where we do have that problem, and we’ll just have to see.

Breeder got what she wanted – her beagle finished her championship today.  So all is good.

  • Dulce took Winner’s Bitch

I have been wanting an opportunity to just showy dog and not have to compete and I got that today

It was good because we got to show in our class and then we got to compete (yeah right) with the Specials.

The next three opportunities all majors. Tomorrow will be good practice again because we are "competing" with our breeder who has a bitch who just needs 2 points and the major.

Next weekend we are in Jackson and it has two majors. Since the breeder isn't coming and she likes the judges i feel that not only do we have a chance but that we will know what we are doing.

Lately no one has noticed we were in the ring so I must be doing okay. Today the judge said she moved well but was being silly on the table and we are working in that. Tomorrow I plan to put her on the table, walk her to the edge and then pose her.

Mildred doesn't think that will work but we'll see.

  • Darn – No Christmas Qs

We had nice runs all weekend – see yesterdays posts.

JWWs – missed by one second. @alfredtwo will appreciate my off by one whine. Also had a refusal at the weaves.

Standard – probably took off to early and landed in the middle of the jump. I was really worried she was hurt. Ran up the plank of the teeter and found she couldn't do it .

    Boy is it cold!

Sorry to see the agility year is over but we play again in January.

No q. But she did everything-refusal on the teeter. Way slow though.

  • Dulce’s Second Weekend of Conformation

    It was interesting.

Her first weekend was last July at Dallas Market Hall.  She was scrawny then.  We got beat every day by the same dog, a relative.  She was just a day into the 1 year to 18 month class.  I didn’t know how to move her, and had trouble with her turning into jelly puppy.

This was her second weekend, again, both days beat by the same dog a relative.  The difference was today.  I hadn’t figured out how to show her and she kept turning into jelly puppy.  She was doing that in conformation class.  However, this time, both days she moved really well.  I had jelly puppy again – or something I call the leaning tower of beagle.  This morning I decided I’d put her on the table, let her adjust herself, and then keep her in place.  That worked VERY nicely.  No leaning.  No jelly.

Both show sites are crowded but at least there is somewhat close parking to be found at Dallas Market Hall.  Yesterday I got sent to the far side of the building and ended up parking a long way from the building.  Too far to carry chair, dog and belongings.  I think the situation put all of us off.

We are at the Double W Arena and it was packed.  I would not have wanted to show in obedience there.  Conformation was hard enough.  Yesterday really wore me down as I didn’t have a chair and there were no chairs to be had.  I did help the other owner/handlers though and had a good time.

Today was much better.  I was able to park within site of the door and was able to bring in a chair.  A steward did ask me to move closer to the ring, but I did explain I was trying to stay out of it.  Again I could help the other owner handlers, but even more so, being the deposit point for people as they went into the ring.  I had a good time and my breeder had good things to say both how my dog looked and how she showed.  This time I let her do the work and show herself, both on the floor and the table, and she did much better.

However, I’m looking forward to being back “home” in agility next weekend, and back at Market Hall the week after.  I will say agility is more “fun” because we all have a chance to win when we really don’t in conformation.

  • Odd thoughts on dog shows

So I took Dulce to a dog show today. Paid $25 for privilege. There were somewhere just over 1000 entries.

So why did the facility have NO parking? No chairs to sit down in and worse yet – no room to do so?

I passed about 10 "no dogs" signs which really stuck me as hilarious.
