{"id":306,"date":"2010-07-02T10:47:53","date_gmt":"2010-07-02T10:47:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/beagles\/crate-games\/"},"modified":"2010-07-02T10:47:53","modified_gmt":"2010-07-02T10:47:53","slug":"crate-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/beagles\/crate-games\/","title":{"rendered":"Crate Games"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve been taking Crate Games from Paula Weir at Dog City.&#160; One of the fun things about Paula, is that we can discuss clicker training and honor each persons point of view.&#160; Of course, remember, the only thing that two dog trainers will ever agree on, is that the third dog trainer is doing it wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Crate Games is at <a title=\"http:\/\/www.clickerdogs.com\/crate_games.php\" href=\"http:\/\/www.clickerdogs.com\/crate_games.php\">http:\/\/www.clickerdogs.com\/crate_games.php<\/a> and it\u2019s basically a positive way of teaching control.&#160; I\u2019ve got the DVD, but there are some things that are easier for me to get if I have instructor feedback.&#160; By the way, the instructor has a strong Canadian accent and an irritating voice.&#160; Which also makes it difficult for me to watch very long.&#160; I\u2019m \u201cspoiled\u201d, I was told and it was true, that I had an irritating voice, especially when transmitted, and I spent a long time to learn how to fix it.&#160; Must have been successful because for several years I had a radio show.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s an interesting system and I don\u2019t agree with it 100% (remember the above \u2013 the only thing two dog trainers ever agree about \u2026. ).<\/p>\n<p>Paula wanted me to have a release word.&#160; I don\u2019t have one.&#160; I did, years ago, but I found that having a release word doesn\u2019t make any sense.&#160; I usually want my dogs to do something.&#160; I\u2019ve been analyzing that over the past couple of weeks, and it is true.<\/p>\n<p>If I put a dog in a crate, when I get the dog out of the crate, I want them to do something.&#160; 9 times out of 10, I want the dog to go outside.&#160; Now, once they go outside, I might not tell them something else to do.&#160; So, an appropriate release word would be \u201cGo Outside\u201d.&#160; And yes, that\u2019s what I tell my dogs when I come home and let them out of their crate.<\/p>\n<p>The other 10% of the time, I want the dogs to do something with me.&#160; If they are in the car, I want them on leash so I can take them from the car to where we are going \u2013 so in that case, the appropriate command is \u201cput on your leash\u201d.&#160; Yes, that is a command, and I use it on the agility field, both in training and competition.&#160; It means we\u2019re done, and I want you to hold still so I can put a leash on you.<\/p>\n<p>I honestly never put a dog in a crate and then expect them to do nothing when I get them out.&#160; <\/p>\n<p>My compromise is to use the phrase \u201cLet\u2019s Play\u201d, since the rest of the time I use a crate, would be to alternate training between the dogs.&#160; <\/p>\n<p>But seriously, when I let a dog out of a crate, I want them to do something.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve been taking Crate Games from Paula Weir at Dog City.&#160; One of the fun things about Paula, is that we can discuss clicker training and honor each persons point of view.&#160; Of course, remember, the only thing that two dog trainers will ever agree on, is that the third dog trainer is doing it [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-306","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-blog"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/beagles\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/306","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/beagles\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/beagles\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/beagles\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/beagles\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=306"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/beagles\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/306\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/beagles\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=306"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/beagles\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=306"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/beagles\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=306"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
