{"id":249,"date":"2013-03-15T11:17:16","date_gmt":"2013-03-15T11:17:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/cs\/thoughts-on-staff-development\/"},"modified":"2013-03-15T11:17:16","modified_gmt":"2013-03-15T11:17:16","slug":"thoughts-on-staff-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/cs\/thoughts-on-staff-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Thoughts on Staff Development"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A recent Twitter acquaintance tweeted that she was at a staff development and that the leader of the staff development demanded that all technology be put away.\n<\/p>\n<p>First, I want a few things defined:\n<\/p>\n<p>Exactly WHAT technology?\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pencil\/Pen and paper\n<\/li>\n<li>Phone\n<\/li>\n<li>Tablet\n<\/li>\n<li>Notebook\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All devices that I have used to effectively take notes during staff development.  All devices I have used effectively to distract myself from annoying staff development.\n<\/p>\n<p>I personally think when we do staff development, we should model effective teaching.  Effective teaching and staff development is teaching &#8212; involves the whole student \u2013 I think that materials should be made available in advance that interest the student and there should be activities during and after the interest and engage the students.\n<\/p>\n<p>I do that by putting together an online place that people can gather before, during and after.  Moodle is ideal for that, but there are also other spaces great.\n<\/p>\n<p>However, the moral of the whole story is that no one should limit learning technology during teaching and learning.
