{"id":331,"date":"2012-08-15T09:44:43","date_gmt":"2012-08-15T09:44:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/cs\/fixing-teachers\/"},"modified":"2012-08-15T09:44:43","modified_gmt":"2012-08-15T09:44:43","slug":"fixing-teachers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/cs\/fixing-teachers\/","title":{"rendered":"Fixing Teachers?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After talking with a younger teacher last night, maybe I still need to be working on fixing teachers.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m designing a new computer science course for the district based on the new TEKS called Computer Science Fundamentals.&#160; <\/p>\n<p>My focus on the course is to have students develop research skills to learn about computer science.&#160; For example, the first unit is \u201cAcceptable Use Policy\u201d.&#160; Rather than tell the student how to behave, I want the students to learn how to behave on the internet by researching what the repercussions of bad behavior are.&#160; So within the whole six weeks, they have to learn how to do internet searches, evaluate web sites, and make their own web pages.&#160; <\/p>\n<p>In none of that, do I want the teacher to spend an entire class period talking to students.&#160; Maybe having an conversation with, but I don\u2019t want the teacher to be the main focus.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s not comfortable with that yet, and doesn\u2019t know how to do that.<\/p>\n<p>How do we teach that?&#160; Well, for one thing, we stop doing that at staff development\u2019s!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After talking with a younger teacher last night, maybe I still need to be working on fixing teachers.
