{"id":333,"date":"2012-08-10T06:46:19","date_gmt":"2012-08-10T06:46:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/cs\/latest-goal-in-lifechanging-staff-development\/"},"modified":"2012-08-10T06:46:19","modified_gmt":"2012-08-10T06:46:19","slug":"latest-goal-in-lifechanging-staff-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/cs\/latest-goal-in-lifechanging-staff-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Latest Goal in Life&ndash;Changing Staff Development"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve spent the summer in Staff Development or Training Sessions.&#160; Some have been really good, and some have been really bad.<\/p>\n<p>The highlights of the bad:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\">PowerPoint slides filled with information or the equivalent<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#000000\">Presenter talking too much and too fast<\/font><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Before a staff development session, think about your audience and what you want them to do.&#160; Do you want them to change their behavior?&#160; That is the typical goal.&#160; If so, figure what what you want them to do, give them a reason to do it, and a reward for doing it.&#160; That\u2019s Behavior Analysis 101.&#160; Bludging them to death with information isn\u2019t going to do it.<\/p>\n<p>For example, I want more students to take AP Computer Science and I want them to pass the test.&#160; The reward for that in one less prep (or more), and that I get incentive pay for each student who passes the AP Computer Science Exam.&#160; <\/p>\n<p>So show me how to get more kids in the door and how to get them to pass the exam.&#160; Easy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve spent the summer in Staff Development or Training Sessions.&#160; Some have been really good, and some have been really bad.
