{"id":378,"date":"2012-04-15T12:45:01","date_gmt":"2012-04-15T12:45:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/cs\/tutoring\/"},"modified":"2012-04-15T12:45:01","modified_gmt":"2012-04-15T12:45:01","slug":"tutoring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/cs\/tutoring\/","title":{"rendered":"Tutoring"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dallas News has an article about this: <a title=\"http:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/education\/headlines\/20120414-studies-find-students-rarely-benefit-from-tutor-program.ece\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/education\/headlines\/20120414-studies-find-students-rarely-benefit-from-tutor-program.ece\">http:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/education\/headlines\/20120414-studies-find-students-rarely-benefit-from-tutor-program.ece<\/a> and it\u2019s something I\u2019ve been wondering about myself.<\/p>\n<p>First, I want to know how the students are being tutoring \u2013 my theory is that the students don\u2019t need another session of a teacher talking to them.&#160; It didn\u2019t work the first time.&#160; However, I see a lot of these going on at my school.<\/p>\n<p>My theory is that the students need extra time, supervised by someone who can actually tell when the student solved the problem the wrong way and guide them to solve the problem the wrong way.<\/p>\n<p>In my experience as a math teacher, your not as abled students don\u2019t practice enough.&#160; They also don\u2019t have access to someone who knows how to work the problems.<\/p>\n<p>I will admit to tutoring the above way at AP Sessions but those are different students with a different goal.&#160; If I was running the program, I would tutor my way \u2013 give the kids extra time to work problems, supervise them so I know they are on task, check their answers and answer questions.<\/p>\n<p>Funny that\u2019s the way I teach and it works pretty well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dallas News has an article about this: http:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/education\/headlines\/20120414-studies-find-students-rarely-benefit-from-tutor-program.ece and it\u2019s something I\u2019ve been wondering about myself.
