Working out

This is where I work out…

Heart Healthy Fitness Center

Almost took it too far tonight. Had the shakes by the time I got home. Good news is that I needed to eat carbs soon anyway.

But the point of this, is pick a good gym. I don’t think it is a good idea to work out without people around until you’ve got your diabetes stabilized and under the control.

It’s a nice small, neighborhood gym. It’s mostly for the employees of the company that owns the gym (they run country clubs). Everyone who works there is very knowledgeable, both the trainers and the massage people.

I’ve told everyone what to do if I do go too low and lose consciouness, and left glucose gel with my name on it just in case.

Make sure you do check your blood sugar often when exercising.

What I usually do, is work out for half of my planned time, then check my sugar. The good news, is that most of the time I’ll have a good 20-30 point drop in sugars.

FYI: I’ve been looking for studies on the effects of resistance training (light weights) on blood sugar, because for a few days I was seeing much lower blood sugars after I started.
