We’re doing well. Just realized her 3 three month trial was almost up and hadn’t heard from the ADA committee since the chair resigned. Contacted the new person who indicated she had been extended and would meet on her in December. She also indicated that they would probably extend another six months.

Still Losing Weight
I honestly haven’t been thinking about it or working on it. Didn’t even notice yesterday, but I’ve lost another two pounds. The least significant digit on the scale looks very similar to the old one if I don’t have prescription eyewear on. If you are looking at this post on the actual site, you’ll see I’m a pound away from my next goal – I have been setting goals to be 5 pounds apart, as that is more doable and less frightening then a total weight loss.
Besides, I don’t know what my goal is – just that I want to be less heavy than I am now and more healthy. Definitely more than 5 pounds less than I am now, but I don’t know how many more.
I’ve got three weekends of dog shows coming up so being lighter will definitely be a plus for the girls. Wish Macy would get used to it. She tends to be a bit lazy.

Lapband
I’ve consistently been at the lowest weight I’ve seen in about 5 years. I’ve been shopping in my closet a lot, and I’ve been retiring a lot of clothing. I haven’t felt it physically but that’s okay.
It means I’ve lost 40 pounds since I’ve gotten my lapband. Most of it has been slow and gradual and that’s what I wanted. I know a lot of people have dramatic weight loss with it, but I didn’t really want what. The first year was hard because the people who did my fills didn’t do them right. It’s taken them going out of business to find the right people.
But looking back, even they weren’t too bad.
Here’s the thing – when I got my lapband, I was gaining 10 pounds a month. I lost some initial weight with the surgery and was keeping that weight off. Just stopping that consistent weight gain was a big thing.
I still fight the restriction some times and I still have lots of food issues, but I’m getting there.

Pleasant Surprise!
I picked up my new Verio strips and my pen needles and there was no copay with either! I did have to pay a $35 co pay on the insulin pens, but expected that. I’m not sure if the no copay is new or not, as I know I paid copays on both in the past.

Pump Decision
After wearing the Omnipod for a few hours, realizing how much I enjoy our hot tub, I decided on the Revel pump. The Omnipod is just too weird, I can’t hide it like I can the pump, not that taking a dog everywhere is normal either….
I do have a message out to Medtronics about the vision issue. And no, carrying around a magnifying glass isn’t the answer yet.

Pump Dilemma
We have a hot tub. Makes the Omnipod interesting.
I have trouble reading anything black on green, especially as fine print as the Medtronics pump.
Not sure what to do.

Pump Search should be done today
Both reps are coming by school today. One at lunch and one during my planning period. Means that I will have seen both pumps and can make a decision.
First consideration: Can I actually see the screen – that’s a problem with the Animas Remote.
Second consideration: Can I actually wear the device. Not a worry with the Minimed, they have an infusion set similar to what I use now, but a major concern with the Omnipod.

@OneTouch Frustrations
Just got a @OneTouch Verio Meter because I’ve been having trouble seeing my One Touch Ping meter screen. My doctor’s personal handed me the meter and said you’ll really like it, it has software you can download and you can download the meter with it. So I come home, read the manual, and one page 73 it says to go to the http://www.onetouch.com website to find the software.
There is no indication on that page as to where the software is, nothing on the support page either.
So I call the 1800 number referenced on page 73 and the first rep hangs up on me. Come to find out, you have to go to the bottom of the “My Products” page, click on the software image page, where the Verio is NOT listed, and then load that software.
Please. My mother can figure that out?
Good thing I took the day off…..

Endo visit
Was stressed out and not sure why. All my numbers were good. A1C down, weight down, blood sugar good, etc.
I’m switching to the One Touch Verio meter and ditching the Animas remote for a while as I am having trouble reading the old One Touch meter. The screen is very sweet.
I’m going to either the Medtronic pump or the OmniPod. I’ve heard from the Omnipod rep, not the Medtronic. I’m 90% sure I’m going with Medtronic.
Off to the pharmacy to get supplies and a shingles vaccine.

Pump Shopping
So far the only real contender is the Accu-Chek. I like it over the other pumps because it is a luer lock and I could use the same sets, though they don’t sell them on the website. Staying with the same insertion set lets out the Minimed and the Omnipod. Also the Omnipod doesn’t have enough basal settings.
I like that the Remote control is a bit more modern than the Ping meter, but I don’t think it has a food list. I also don’t think it has an IOB calculator.
Sad that Animas hasn’t updated their user interfaces or software in 4 years. The equipment is exactly the same as it was 4 years ago. In fact, I probably wouldn’t even have them ship me new equipment….
