  • Happy DBlog Day

I am in Houston and not happy about. When I was growing up we moved a bunch of times. I went to three different high schools.
Now I hate change with a passion. I lived in the same house for fifteen years. I kept my second real job for over ten years and I am proud of the fact I have been at the same school for fourteen years and have spent most of that time in the same room.
Beside that I have never enyoyed Houston. Some major bad has happened ever single time. Once I had a flat tire while I was trying to get out of town before a hurricane came in. I left a few hours later than I wanted.
So I am not a happy camper. Dealing with diabetes makes it worse. I have to bring at least one extra bag of stuff and of course have the constant worry. I email my husband at every stop nd tell him where I am, just in case.
Last summer I posted abojt how a diabetic friend went lo and froze for over 5 minutes. I am terrified that I might start doing that someday and it would be even worse if it happened when I out of town. Something just too possible.
Diabetes lurks behind almost every thought.

  • Battle Diabetes is still stealing content

Though they have taken the posts down from their site that “tells” the story.  That’s okay, I’ll just add a little anti-battle diabetes content to every post … maybe that will make them go away.

  • I told you so!

Took her long enough to figure that out!

Diabetes Mine: When MDI is B-A-D — Time to Pump

I suppose people on insulin pumps have bad weeks, too. But I’m officially D-O-N-E with the last few, that’s for sure.

Seriously. Pumping is the only way to be a diabetic but it is EXPENSIVE, time consuming, mind consuming, etc.

I have done it all — oral meds for about two months which drove me nuts. No matter what I ate, didn’t ate, etc, my blood glucose monitor insisted on being a random number generator.

I’ve done MDI. Here’s the problem with MDI, you make a mistake, you roller coaster for days. Flat out, you are just stick with the insulin you take until it decides to leave.

That’s true pumping too, but it decides to leave on a quicker basis. And yes it is ALL about the control!

I’m lucky, the short term complications get me in a hurry. The first is blurred vision — if my blood sugar isn’t in normal range, I can’t read, and have trouble seeing. The second is bitchiness — if my blood sugar is too high, I’m hard to get along with. The third is congetive ability, I can’t program and I can’t teach as well if my blood sugar is too high.

And remember make sure you are reading this at http://www.kweaver.org and if you are reading it at BattleDiabetes.com, it is stolen content!

  • Week 10 Done!

The inserts the orthopedist gave me are doing the trick. I only have a little pain when I wake up on the non-anti-inflamtory mornings, and it goes away when I move. I’m still stiff but that’s an all over thing.

I’ve moved around my work outs already and I believe — which I’m going to double check tonight — that my hotel has a gym. I have to go to Houston for a teacher workshop on Thursday and will be back Saturday.

FYI: The whole battlediabetes thing is creeping me out. I can understand why anyone would grab my little trivial posts.

And the heartburn is much better too!

  • Update – Have finished week 9!

I went and double checked, and I did finish week 9 of exercise.

The inserts are making a huge difference, yesterday I was forced to be on my feet for about an hour, and I didn’t feel nearly as bad as I usually do.

  • Finished Week 8 (though it might be 9)

The last few weeks have been hectic, but I’ve gotten my workouts in. I think I got two or three extra cardio workouts in this week — the shoe inserts are helping.

I figured out that they feel better if I put them below the removable inserts that are already in my walking shoe.

I definately want to get at least one more set made soon. I just keep forgetting to put the extra shoes in my car.

  • 48 hours in inserts

The knees are doing very well. It’s cold and rainy — the stuff that makes them ache and they don’t. Are they perfect? No. Am I ready to stop taking Mobic? Maybe on Saturday.

However, one of my goals is being accomplished, I am more active!

I think I’m going to take a second pair of shoes with me and get another pair of inserts tomorrow.

  • 24 hours in shoe inserts

This is amazing. I did dog agility last night in them, and spent the day in them. I did take a 15 mg Mobic last night BUT we have rain coming in, which usually makes me ache.

I’m not nearly as stiff as usual — I better find my shoes though, as these are the ones my puppy likes to chew the most.

Anyway, I’m MUCH better and it’s only been 24 hours.

  • Finished Week 7

Even though I didn’t get home until 8:00 two nights, and 6:00 pm one, I managed to get in all my workouts this week. It helped that I had the day off on Friday too.

I’m really hoping that my knee holds together — though the good news is that the congestion finally subsided.
