  • Delusions

I got a bit delusional today.

Woke up and blood sugar was in the 90’s. Got up, dressed and headed out the door for a private agility lesson. Picked up eggs and bacon at McDonald’s. Tested blood sugar after the lesson and was in the 90’s still. Ate two square Snickers, did a facility rental and checked the blood sugar again and was at 120.

Got to wondering if the recent walking, sticking to things, etc was working better than expected and did I really need the pump.

    Well, I do.

Got a depo shot and then ate lunch. Two hours after lunch, blood sugar was 214.

Good news, is that after 50 minutes of cardio and weights and two hours after dinner, I was back in the 120’s.

  • Medco

I finally have the second blood pressure medication being processed by Medco. I’m not sure where the problem happened. I figure I’m going to do something about the Restatis this weekend, especially since I’m still having problems with my contacts and dry eyes.

  • The last year…

    I’m a bit late in this …

I’ve had my insulin pump for 1 1/2 years, and I’ve had my treadmill for about a year.

I lost about 30 pounds in the last year, my A1C has dropped from 7.0 to a low of 6.2, and last was 6.6

I got my pump in August, and in September my husband broke his hip in September. He was on crutches and in bad shape until December.

I was doing an okay job with working out while I had a gym membership, but didn’t get REALLY good at it until I set up the gym in the house with a treadmill and free weights.

I signed up with iShape back in February. iShape has been invaluable in helping me keep up with an exercise program.

    A few more milestones

went from 1.5 mph on the treadmill to 2.5
insulin usage from 100-120 units a day to 40-50 units

  • Last few hours have been interesting…

For some reason, not sure why, one of my computers have stopped booting. It appears that the system drive on that computer has gone south.

So I reloaded Windows on it, and when I was trying to recover, my fastest computer lost it’s operating system too. Neither computer has anything on it that can’t be recovered — I keep all my data either on my servers or on my file server — though I DO need to remember to back all that data up soon.

    Very weird.

And then when I woke up, my set was disconnected (from my insulin pump), so right now I’m not getting any insulin.

It can’t be too long because my blood sugar is 117.

I hate to put it back until I’ve had a shower, and I don’t want to do a shower until I’ve done my workout, so I think I’ll go a little while off pump and maybe do an injection if I need it.

    Weird …

I did sleep until I naturally woke up, in fact, woke up twice and went back to bed, but think I’m going to stay up now. Hopefully I’ll get my sleep fixed since I was running short last week.

And finally — husband is going to book our trip this weekend, so I am DEFINATELY going to Monte Carlo in March.

  • Medco is TOTALLY fubarring things!

It’s sad because Medco hasn’t gotten a single prescription wrong in a year, and all of a sudden they are screwing up.

First, I went to the eye doctor and asked for a 90 day script on Restatis. He supposedly faxed it to Medco and they filled it as a 30 day script but charged me the 30 day price. NOW, their pharmacists knew that was a screw up and should have followed up on it — IF he wrote that way.

The almost good news is they are charging me the 30 day price.

Second screw up — I ordered two scripts at once, which needed to be refilled by the doctor’s office. I don’t know if the doctor didn’t understand their form, or if they fouled it up on there in, but only one of the scripts is being filled. And it’s a blood pressure, generic, that costs very little, heck it would be a good candidate for over the counter.

    ARGH!

  • Monte Carlo

Looks like I am going to Monte Carlo for spring break. Not exactly my first or even second choice, but my husband won a poker tournament through Poker Stars that is sponsoring him to play in the european equivalent to the World Series of Poker.

I have a bunch of issues, like power adapters for my CPAP, can I use it on the airline, etc.

  • Finally…

Sometime in November, I stopped sleeping. As a result, I couldn’t control my eating at all, and then I stopped being able to work out. About all I could do, was to control my blood sugar, but my insulin usage spiked up to around 100 units a day. As a result, I regained some of the weight I lost, and was just miserable.

My carb ratio went back to around 1:8, all the gains I had made were lost.

It’s taken weeks to recover from that.

I had to get the sleep under control first. I then could start doing strength and cardio, but had to really break up the sessions to even get them done. However, I still wasn’t losing weight. I was maintaining, but not losing.

Well, over this break, I’ve managed to get it just about back. My insulin usage is back down to under 40 units a day, and my blood sugar has been extremely stable. In fact, it’s been in the 90’s fasting, and staying pretty flat. I’ve had to do a few almost carb free days to get there, but that’s okay.

I still haven’t lost all the weight I gained, but I’m getting there.

  • Good blog about gastric bypass surgery

    DisappearingJohn

I’ve blogrolled it. Wish it had an RSS feed, I’d read more of it more often.

  • Dentist

I REALLY REALLY like my new dentist. He does the teeth cleaning himself — but I think it’s more because this is an area where it is difficult to get hygenist. He still hasn’t touched the temporary filling, and I think by the time he does, I’m know him well enough it won’t bother me.

He wants me to get them cleaned every 4 months, which I agree is a good idea since diabetics do have problems with gums and gum disease.

  • Reggie White — Cause of Death?

DB’s Medical Rants ? Reggie White, RIP

I’m anxious to hear the details about this myself, being a CPAP patient and being extremely compliant.

I’ve seen two causes listed now, but nothing official and we probably won’t get official results for several weeks.
