Movable Type sucks and Server issues
My comments are broken, none of the templates on their website work right
I know it will get fixed, but I can’t decide what to do.
I’m also having problems with my website ISP. Well, and maybe my at home DSL ISP too.
Let’s see. I’ve had excellent service for years with the local DSL ISP. They’ve been bought out there, and so far, nothing has changed. I’m not holding my breath though, and have several plans if things change. Either go to cable modem, or straight to SBC.
Okay, so now the website ISP. I have 4 domains hosted with the same provider with a reseller account. One of those is http://www.click-l.com where I run the clicker training list. This is a mailing list that has been around FOREVER. I bet we’re on 10 years now.
We’ve been on server different servers, I’ve been ripped off several times by providers, and this one is almost enough to make me give it up.
No mention on the website, or any fine print I’ve seen, but we’re limited to 300 emails an hour. I just hit 287 members, which is small for us, and instead of holding the mail, it bounces it all back and everyone, included me, gets unsubbed.
Took me a couple of days to email the provider to find out if he knew what was going on. At least he was upfront, and made it plain he had no intentions of changing it.
I went to PHPFreaks and moved it, and am waiting on the domain change to take place.
So now I’m trying to figure out what to do. The classroom site will be in development over the summer and I don’t even have to host it if I don’t want to. I do want to park it somewhere though.
The hardest part is the blog. I just uploaded a ton of photos, and I really like that photo album. I can stay on movable type for free, I only have the photo album site and this one. Or I can go to one of the blogger services, I am playing with TypePad.
So my internet life is up in the air.
Oh, and my comments are broken. If you do have input, email me at kathleen_w-weblog8301@mailblocks.com Especially if you can recommend providers.

Interesting Diabetes Tracking Program
I was asked to look at this program.
I’ll start out though by saying this is probably not a program I would use because I’m extremely efficient. I am not going to use a program that is not going to automatic download my pump and blood sugar meter data. That said, I did download this program and give it a try.
UTS Diabetes software for Palm pilot
The install program is very nice. It leads the users by the hand. Too many Palm programs have poorly designed installation programs.
The insulin calculations set up is very tedious but then that’s something that you don’t do often, and don’t change much.
I also don’t see how to calculate carbs / insulin rations.
It’s got a very good user interface — much better than EzManager.
A nice program, but not that useful for a pumper. Would be great for someone who used multiple daily injections and didn’t carb count, or great for someone on medications.

Animas EzManager
Well, I’m in love with a piece software. Okay, the user interface is cluggy as all heck but it is similar to the user interface on the pump itself. Once I started programming the pump, the interface made sense, but I STILL want to graffitti my numbers!
Now that this is out of my system. And darn, I didn’t tell today’s trainer the whole truth. What actually pushed me over the edge from Deltec to the Animas pump was the software. Yeah, the Cozmos is cute, but the Palm/Desktop EasyManager software is something that I can use.
First, I was already hooked on the Palm, and really liked the Diabetes Pilot (and you can actually graffiti your numbers with it, plus edit the fooddata base). So moving to Easy Manager wasn’t hard. I actually started playing with EasyManager before I went to the pump.
I’m not a paper person. I lose paper. (You should see the desk right now, in order NOT to lose paper, it has to stay on the desk, where it first appeared — and even then it’s chancy.) So running around with a Palm pilot that I can backup on a regular basis (I have one of those fancy little cards I back up to + the desktop) is right for me. Again, that pushed me over the edge.
I really love being able to hook the meters to the software (I use Freestyle) and I love the fact that the software works with several meters. Here’s the great news — and one of those really weird, head scratching things. Freestyle had sent me a new meter about a month ago and for a week, it wouldn’t talk to the EasyManager. For some weird reason, it started talking today.
And so now, the big question. I’ve already spent $29.99 on the upgrade, and I think $89.99 for the Therasense software and cable. Do I spring $159 for the IR port, and when? Now, or wait a while.

Diabetes Pilot Update
I have been logging voluntairly since I got the desktop version of the program. Kinda of weird, but whatever works.

Super Program, now Better!
I loved the Palm byself version. I REALLY REALLY wanted a Windows program interface though, and they came through.

Diabetes Pilot
If you have a Palm Pilot this is super software for logging and tracking what is going on with your diabetes.
You can import the data into either Excel or Word, which really impressed by Diabetes Educator.
