  • Saw a post on Twitter that deeply disturbed me: Look who else has #diabetes It’s official – we R everywhere!

I’ve removed the link because there is no indication on the website that the individual has diabetes, Type 1 or otherwise.

First, the tone is a bit congratulatory. I’m sorry, but a diagnosis of diabetes should never be treated as a celebration or a good thing. Also, I don’t think someone should be outted, unless they announce it themselves, and again, I see no indication on the website.

And if it is true, my condolences, you can make it but it isn’t always easy.

  • Agility – A good day!

    No Qs, but

Macy tried very hard today to stay with me, even though I'm still quite slow.  I did have to work for almost every obstacle but she got through every one with the exception of the teeter.  She's still very scared of them, especially at a trial and got all four feet on, took a few steps and bailed.

    Making progress is good!

  • World Diabetes Awareness Day (Tomorrow)

According to an old teacher handbook, this is spirit day and we're supposed to wear spirit shirts.  I always wear red on Friday's, but not this Friday.  Besides the fact that I think the blue nails will clash, I'm wearing blue for diabetes awareness.

Sadly no one has had the guts to ask why my nails are blue, but oh well, maybe they will ask about blue today, but I'm not sure any one really notices that I always wear red on Friday's.

  • November Daily Posting

Got a bit burned out posting on Monday and didn't get to it on Tuesday.

SO, I moved one of my Monday posts to Tuesday, added a comment to another Monday post and posted it a few minutes ago.

Basically, I'm exhausted and just hanging in.

  • Yikes – 312

Heading for bed — had some random protein and some random carbs in hoping they will help me go to sleep.

Took some insulin, took my night time meds and heading for bed.

Oh, and finally got brave enough to get on the scale and I am maintaining my weight.  better than gaining.

  • Diabetic Alert – Be very careful at McCafe

Apparently some McD employees don't know the difference between a Mocha and a Latte — it has happened twice now at two different McD's.

Here's the biggest problem.  A Latte has 18 carbs, a Mocha has 58 carbs, which WILL cause a hypo if you get the wrong drink.

And yeah, avoiding the mocha all together is the best idea, but they taste too good.

And then today, I got a hot chocolate, no coffee! (Wednesday)

  • Day in the Life – Dinner

Dinner was provided with our workshop — thankfully BBQ.  Had some beef, a bit of chicken and a bit of turkey and then really wet it down with sauce.  With the lapband, I've found that the wetter the protein the easier.  Examples: beef with queso sauce, chicken with any kind of sauce, etc.  Worked well, did some hipcupping towards the end.  Had a few bites of potato salad and quite a bit of coleslaw.

    Slipped dessert.

Didn't test, but it's just been 2 hours now from my last bolus, and I was at 173 and bolused.  Still running high.

Oh, by the way, the vision is a bit blurred but I am not sure if it is blood sugar, lack ef sleep or just need to get checked out by the optomitist again.

  • After school

First I'm exhausted and have to be at a class until, welll, too late for me.

I stopped and got a McD's Filet of Fish, I've found this is one protein that if i work hard, can eat from a fast food restaurant.  I was able to get down all the fish and some of the carb.

The disappointment is that I am drinking an extremely bitter mocha and I have no idea how much sugar is in it if any.

Anyway, I skipped testing when I got the food, bolused for a full filet of fish (38 carbs) and am going to wing it.

  • Day in the life — craving crunch again

This is my off period, and I'm still craving crunch, so I pulled out a Slim Fast protein bar –23 carbs.  Blood sugar is 136.

    2.55 units.

  • Day in the life

Apparently I didn't press "deliver" as my meter and pump just started beeping and vibrating to tell me to check my blood sugar from two hours ago.

    Blood sugar is 200.

I'm watching as the meter and pump are communicating and delivery over 4 units of insulin.
