  • Bad diabetic agility day

When my blood sugar is high when I wake up, it’s really hard for me to eat.  Sometimes I can do eggs and bacon.  Today, I just didn’t feel like eating at all, and never got around to it.

Then I did an agility run.  NOT good, I was dizzy, feeling hypo, etc.  Didn’t remember I had emergency sugar in my keychain which is in my chair pockets.  I just couldn’t figure out what to do.  I went to the car, sat down and slowly forced down my breakfast.

Then I forgot to bolus for that, but wasn’t super high.  Just over 200, which I was all day yesterday.

Also, it was cold.  When I woke up at 6:00 am it as 42 degrees, and when I came back from getting warm inside and out (got a warm lunch), it was 44.

Marcie and I are doing okay though.  We rarely have more than one mistake, though we had two in Standard this morning.  And she ran clean but I was so stiff from the cold that I was slow and we were 7 seconds over time.

Most of the time these days, we’re clean but over time.

Maggie on the other hand, decided that I wasn’t listening to her when she said it was too cold to do agility.  She ran out of the ring.  I told the people at ringside, if they would get give her food, she’d stop but they were all horrified at that idea.  Probably something about rewarding the behavior I’m sure.  Well, when she’s in agility mode you can’t pick her up — she won’t let me, and I know she won’t let strangers.  So I grabbed my food on the way out of the ring (we stash it handy), and got her to sit and stay while someone else got my leash (it was on the other side of the ring).

I took her comment this time, put her in the truck and took her home.

  • Texas Seven escapee seeks to hasten execution

I am hoping the others will do likewise.

One of six notorious Texas prison escapees now on death row for the Christmas Eve 2000 killing of an Irving police officer is hoping to speed up his execution.

Michael Anthony Rodriguez has notified court officials that he wants to drop all appeals efforts. If a federal judge allows the move, Mr. Rodriguez would probably become the first member of the Texas Seven gang to face execution.

For those who don’t know, Aubrey Hawkins, the Irving police office that was killed by them was one of my best friends.  He was a really neat guy, and a really good police office.

  • Another week done!

I lost track, but I’ve been exercising regularly for several months.  Last week I sort of switched.  I’ve been trying to get to 10,000 steps each day with at least one aerobic session except for dog agility days.

Right now, I have averaged 10074 steps per day for the past week.  I have also averaged 1648 aerobic steps.  I want to increase by 10% a day, which would give me 11081 steps per day and 1812 aerobic steps per day.  We’ll see.

  • iPort and DME suppliers.

Last year, I attended the Diabetes Expo and learned about the IPort.  See http://www.pattonmd.com/patientsfamily/index.php

I’m going to try a box and see if I like it.

I got an email from Patton, and they referred to EdgePark Medical Supplies to supply it.  They have a website too, at http://www.edgepark.com/

They are selling me the iPorts with no co-pay, which seems really wild.  They also want to supply my testing supplies at the same no co-pay, so I said, sure, why not, since right now I’m paying the pharmacy co-pay.

It will be interesting to see how it will all work out.

  • New pump is here!

And I’ve programmed it manually and have it on.  New set, new bottle of insulin, and new cartridge and new pump.  Maybe the bizarre numbers will change.

Though I do think someone spiked my diet Coke with sugar this morning.  (In other words the fast food place gave me regular, not sugar free).

  • Protective Case

Got mine last night.  Love them.  I have to carry a Symlin vial and NO ONE makes a case for that.  I’d ask them about a month ago, and they emailed to tell me they were available.

    1) I wrote about a neat new protective case for Lantus vials recently.  Well now a reader tipped me off to a similar one, available on eBay, apparently designed by a mother whose son wouldn’t let her wrap his bottles of insulin with bubble wrap (not cool, mom! they note). This one looks pretty cool 😉

Just look for them out on ebay.  They try to keep a “Buy It Now” item on there all the time and tell them in your notes what sizes you want.  I got Novolog and Symlin and have a protective case for my main and my spares now.  Yes, I’m anal about making sure I have plenty of supplies on me, and the few times I don’t, I need them.

  • New pump is on the way

I dropped my pump hard Saturday. I checked it and I looked okay but I was wrong. It no longer vibrates.
I was in a semi-panic this morning shen I called nimas but they calmed me down. They shipped a new pump this evening and it is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I am watching close as I don’t always trust our front office. They already know it is coming though.

  • Exercise mostly and trying to fix things

First, I got another week of exercise in.

Second, especially after Wednesday, I realized that the exercise program I ‘m doing now, isn’t entirely working.

I use iShape, which I like — and I should ask their support this question. I either get a program that is too light — the one I have now — of a program that is too much — the program I had last week. I’d like a program in between the two.

So I’m going to use that as a basis, but I’m also going to use the pedometer. I am going to shoot for 10,000 steps each day, and at the beginning getting 10 minutes of aerobic steps in. That’s 10 minutes straight. I’m having trouble with that today as my shoe laces keep coming untied, and I have to restart.

  • Ick! Bad A1C

My A1C is the worst it’s been since I’ve been on the pump.  7.2.  I called because I had not gotten my test results, and they did mail them on the 30th, so should get them anytime now.
