  • Blood sugar back down

This is the quickest after an excusion I’ve had my fasting blood sugar back down. Since about Friday, I’ve had some problems with food, not sure why, stress from getting ready for trip, stress on ordering pump, stress from ending challenge, who knows.

Anyway, my fasting blood sugars (morning ones), have been in the 120’s. And as high as 150. I’ve been on the pump now, and using the IOB feature since Tuesday evening, and this morning woke up with a 109. No lows.

I also test better since I got the pump, as it vibrates an hour after I do a basal. Hmm, I wonder if there is a way to have it remind 2 hours after a set change? I’ll be eating breakfast between now and then so it might not matter. The pump reminds an hour after bolus.

  • Cigna Problems

I watch this, because I was denied by Cigna, but the author of the article says it happened in the wrong time frame.

It’s very interesting reading though — FYI: The article will only be available to nonsubscribers for 7 days.

  • Things I like about my IR1250

First, 500 food entries are a lot. If someone upgrades from an IR1200, don’t feel cheated, as I barely have 100 in mine. Mostly things I might eat if I don’t have my Treo handy.

I think I’ll still be using the Treo, but I’ll probably let the pump calculate the units, since it slices finer than the Treo.

I love the vibrate alarm 1 hour after I bolus. I might change it to two, haven’t decided. I had been checking two hours after, but with the IOB, checking an hour works okay too.

I don’t have to have vibrate, I could have a tone, but vibrate is better.

So far the cartridge isn’t a probably but even on my worst days later, I’m using less than 60 units a day.

The cartridges are great. I’ve filled two in a row with absolutely no bubbles. Much easier than the IR1000.

Since I have plenty of insulin, (I’ve reduced my intake from 120 units a day to 60), for right now, I’m planning to completely fill the cartridge. I’m not sure how much I’ll have left after priming, etc.

I’ll do that for a few days.

  • What I like about the IR1250

It’s light. I’ve worn it now getting close to a day, and it is really much smaller and must lighter than the IR1000 was. I honestly don’t feel it. It also takes up less room and shouldn’t be as noticeable.

I like the ezBG feature. That’s one feature they added on the IR1200 that I really really wanted, and even more so lately as my blood sugar has been a bit elevated. Food has been a bit out of control, and I have a favorite that I can’t figure out how much to bolus for.

The food database on board is very easy to use, but I don’t think they could make it easier. The backlight isn’t very bright. I am sure that is to preserve battery power.

Overall it is definately an improvement.

I like the fact that it uses a AA Lithium battery. You can put a non Lithium in it but will not have as good battery life. I also like that they have a battery indicator on the main screen. The IR1000 didn’t have that.

  • Depo arrived

It’s here. Don’t need until I get back from the trip, but it that’s one less thing to deal with that week.

  • Mail Order Scripts

Okay, so THIS is weird. Remember in my last post on how stressful Medco is when it comes to temperature sensitive meds, and that they had called (with an automated service by the way), and schedule delivery for March 2, but the website showed it wasn’t shipping until March 4?

Well, guess what, got an email saying it had shipped today — though the email only says SOMETHING shipped, not what and you have to go to the website and check ….

But the tracking shows it is currently out for delivery. Of course that means it will get here this afternoon. I’ll leave a note on the door while I am at the dentist anyway, but still….

  • My pump is here!

Still working on getting the pump set up, but I do have some of the database in the pump now, and I do have most of my settings in the pump.

Since I’ve been connected I have had a drop in blood sugar and used the IOB feature for the first time.

  • My pump is here!

It came 24 hours early. I love my UPS man! My husband almost didn’t get to the door in time, but that would have been okay, as I would have gladly gone to UPS to get it.

I’m really glad it is here, because tomorrow night I have a chat for my master’s degree class, and this is definitely going to take all evening. I am however, hooked up, and getting a basal. I’ve downloaded settings from the old pump, and I have the my normal basal set.

I also have EzManager installed and the new databases in my Palm pilot.

I’m getting there, but I’ve been working for about an hour. I’m currently taking a reboot break.

  • Mail Order Meds

Diabetes Mine: The Flap About Meds in the Mail

I commented briefly on Amy’s blog — I find getting insulin shipped in the mail pretty stressful, and here’s an example.

This time it is depo prevera also temperature senstive, but in this case, needs to be kept at room temperature.

I ordered a refill on 2/22/04. I received a phone call a day or two later asking me when I wanted it shipped — it was an automated call, and it asked if I could received the depo on March 2.

That’s perfect as that is when the pump is due.

However, I go out to the website and it currently says they are shipping on March 04.

March 04 is on Friday, which means if they do it Fed Ex Residential Saturday service, I’ll get it on Saturday. I was planning to be away from the house on Saturday to a Diabetes Expo.

    Very weird.

  • BLOG Anniversary

I just realized that I missed my blog anniversary again. Heck, I’d forget to acknowledge my birthday if I didn’t have a sister born on that day.

    Seriously.

But this blog has now been in existance for over 2 years. Nothing bad so far has come of it, but that’s because I know better than to post about things that will get you in trouble.

Lots of good things have come of it I think. I certainly get a lot of what other people right.
