  • Continuous Glucose Monitors

I feel the need to explain my not holding my breath.

Shortly after I was diagnosed, I realized that hypoglymcia was a real problem when you were dealing with tight control and saw that Therasense was coming out with a continous glucose monitor.

    That was two years ago.

Last year, Therasense submitted a PreMarket application to the FDA. Yes, LAST YEAR. They were bought by Abbott, and while we hear things about their technology through doctor’s conventions no other news has been out.

Minimed has a continous glucose monitor that your doctor can put on you and retrieve the information about 3 days later. On their website they mention the soon availablity of the Guardian system. That’s been on their website for almost a year. We still haven’t seen the Guardian, and we also know that it will not actually display the information realtime. It will have alarms and you’ll have to down load it.

So I am no longer expecting a CGMS any time soon.

There are lots of issues with CGMS, I guessing one of the big ones is the sensor since the infusion set is the biggest issue when it comes to pump reliablility.

  • Good article

It’s about how diabetes and the insulin pump have affected him as a professional athlete.

  • Weight Loss

I’ve just hit a place that I have only seen once before since I’ve been diagnosed with diabetes. I hit this weight in October, freaked, gained about 10 pounds, and than have struggled to get it back off.

I don’t know why it bothered me before, it isn’t now.

  • Fresh Start Challenge – Tuesday – Day 17

    Clean Eating 10/25
    Cardio Session 13/35
    Strength Session 12/28

I haven’t posted this here in a few days, but have been doing it at iShape. Today was a personal best, did my cardio at 2.8 mph — okay, I broke it up a LOT, but it was still that fast and still 30 minutes.

  • It really is paying off!

I just finished two agility runs and wasn’t completely out of breath!

I’m even down another half a pound.

Some of the best things is that I am not noticing gastric reflux symthoms as much. Mostly chest pains, but nothing bad. I haven’t woken up in the middle of the night especially.

In many cases, the risks outweigh the benefits

  • Working out is finally paying off

I took TWO dogs today to an agility trial today, and I think the workouts are finally paying off.

Marcie and I haven’t tried Excellent since the beginning of December, and I found that both courses were much easier to run. She didn’t qualify but the OTHER dog did.

Maggie’s courses were a piece of cake and I was even able to keep up with her — or was she keeping up with me like her sister does? Novice is MUCH easier than Excellent.

  • Bummer Dude.

I’m several years ahead of him on this — was hoping to comment on his blog, not sure if his blog allows track backs, but I invite him to take a look at my journey, he might be able to take some short cuts.

  • New Pump

Animas is taking orders for the new pump. I like the new features, the IR1200 features were not enough to get me to risk $6000 of my own money but we’re coming close on the 1250. I really like have the carb calculations on the pump.

However, the insurance company might not pay for the pump, leaving me with paying for another one out of pocket, and I’d rather not do that this year. We’re going to spend a lot of money going to Monte Carlo.

The good news, is that I can buy a new pump any time, but changing my mind once I commit is harder.
