  • In the Apartment

We’re in the apartment, I’m sleeping better. I’ve actually been here two days, Rich has been here one night. I got what I hope is my final load in today. Waiting on Time Warner Cable to come install cable and internet and will be happy.

Using MIFI right now, on the Mac Mini. May have to break down and buy some type of wireless internet for the desktop but trying to hold off until 3:00 pm.

The apartment isn’t bad, their staff is good, and we’re making it. Definately better than a hotel, especially with two dogs. I can’t imagine how we would have managed if we had had to leave the house that night.

Of course we would have had three dogs.

However, living in the house with no garage was hard. Best thing about the apartment is the garage, and I can stash the dogs their in the truck in their cages when things get tough. They are used to being quiet there.

Adjuster’s report came in last night and the contractor is working on a plan.

I hope we are back home soon.

Have lost over 10 pounds now

  • Best day after the drunk crashed into the house

Seriously.  I only woke up twice before I wanted to.  And worried about school stuff.

Macy only stopped and looked at the debris, she didn’t crawl in.

For some reason driving past it didn’t bother me as much.

Didn’t take any calls related to the crash, but did talk to the Relocation people and email the apartment people and made sure we were okay to move soon.

Did have to met with an furniture evaluator, and discovered that there is a huge amount of truck paint on our stairwell.  There is a huge crack in our ceiling (in the debris room) and that IKEA bookcases don’t count as furniture.  We’ve had more than $1000 of damage on the furniture itself.

We’re moving to temporary quarters soon.

Electronics evaluator next, which I keep hearing horror stories about – not them in particular – just electronics evaluators in general.

  • First Week after the Drunk Driver

Man, this has been a tough week.  I’ve lost 9 pounds.  This is a good thing.  I haven't been able to eat a lot of days due to the stress.

On the day of the crash, the following happened:

    • We rejected the offer to relocate to a hotel because we had three dogs
    • The house was boarded up
    • City approved the house for us to occupy as long as some changes were made.
    • Boarding up company came back and fixed.
    • First insurance adjuster came and examined the house.  Escalated to a second adjuster.
    • “The Maids” came and cleaned the debris for us.
    • Deck man came and fixed the gate so we could get in and out.

Sunday my Pooper Scooper girls brought us new dog run panels as the dogs were getting out of our dog run.

My husband stayed home from work on Monday and met with the new insurance adjuster and two contractors.  The third contractor met with both of us that evening.  Very long story, but we are going with their third.

Thursday, the flooring inspector came and two took sample tiles, one from the wood floor and one from the carpet.  Also the electronics people came and irritated me.  They are supposed to come and get stuff Tuesday.

Walking around the house and seeing it each day is getting me completely down.  Also my husband.  So we’ve decided to relocate to an apartment and I have been working on that each evening.  Wednesday saw an apartment, Thursday put in application and Friday signed the lease.  We will start moving to it on Wednesday.

We have to board one dog, as the apartment only allows 2, and we have three.  We are prepared to leave the other two dogs with her each day if they are disturbances.

This has been no fun, and the drunks surely haven’t been this inconvenienced.

  • The house

The insurance adjuster came out yesterday as did yhree contractors. Not sure who to pick.

The house isnt going to look yhe same, seems the brick is painted and they won’t do that.

The estimate process won’t be done until late next week at the soonest and we haven’t heard from the truck’s insurance company.

I am not taking off work for their crap.

Looks like we have to be out of the house while the bulk of the construction is being done.

Also sounds like the whole thing is painful. We have some damage on the living room ib addition to the doors, guest room and garage.

  • Looks I am more on track

Interesting thing about the accident, its actually got me back on yrack food wise.

I have been good about coming to the gym. I missed About 5 days total this summer, but sleep was causing food issues.

On the day of the accident, I couldn’t eat until very late, and it had to be pretty liquid. Had a Slimfast for lunch and a smoothie in the early evening.

By the way, my blood sugar sky rocketed and stayed high.

  • More sleep

So why am I worried about the sleep thing?

On at least two occasions i have started seeing things and have gotten paranoid. I understand the Keith Ledger and Michael Jackson thing so I avoid sleeping pills. Besides i really don’t want taken out of the house on a stretcher if i don’t have to.

Imagine Friday morning, I can’t be aroused. No fun for any involved. Taking pill tonight.

  • Going Well

I have a good husband.  He went into the debris room (yes, the official name for our study/guest room which is better than the old one.

He retrieved my projector and my xBox.  Some games and the controller.  We can safely assume the @Gamefly rental that was not in the xbox is gone but Michael Jackson is alive and well.  For the non-XBox friends, I still have all my XBox game achievements and data – a big thing.

Not sure what I have yet.

Hardest part was finding the hard drive, it fell into a basket I keep spare stuff in and we were looking for white not gray.

It’s the little things – I had promised to do a workshop for some teachers on XBox, and XNA and finally got pushed by a non-teacher to do it.  We’re getting together for our first meeting on Tuesday night.

Projector should be good, it was in a case and was very high over the actual debris.

Murphy bed looks good too, but the Ikea cabinet is dead.

Speaking of the debris room, we’ve already made some major decisions.  LOVE the murphy bed and closet but the rest of the room doesn’t work for us. It didn’t have a door that closes so guests always ended up with a morning beagle in their bed.  They also didn’t have full privacy, so we are going to definitely demand a different setup.  Also, I had the room set up for a very tall treadmill, so I’ll be able to get different furniture for the XBox/TV.  Still don’t know if the TV lived, but the mount is gone.  The truck hit the corner of that room, and most of the debris is drywall.  Plus the window is gone.

Sad and happy dance at the same time.

  • Sleep

As I knew, I’m not sleeping well.

I have been really worried about my job all summer, and so I hadn’t sleep well much anyway.  Then there is the heat, which normally doesn’t bother me, but it has been a bit of an issue with my skin.

The accident happened around 2:00 am yesterday and I haven’t felt like going near the bed last night until almost midnight.  Also there is the dog thing, which I am doing to post about later.

Now I am up at 3:45,and not much interested in going back to bed.

Some of it is afraid of having another accident, even though the police department is doing increased patrols.  I know they are, I sat with my neighbor for a while last night, on her porch, we saw 3 police officers.

Some of it is the different atmosphere in the house.  We’re cool, but we have a bit of particulate matter in the air and a few more bugs than normal.

Some of it is me.  I have been having sleep issues on and off for years.

    Going to try again.

  • Truck status

We are boarded up, cool, and approved by the city inspector to stay there.

Deck and fence guy came and fixed the fence.

Insurance claims agent came – has to escalate it.

    Have contractor coming Monday.

    @TheMaids came and cleared debris.

    Have mailbox.

Of course we have no front door and no garage door, but our scumbags may get to spend the weekend in jail with no shoes.

And I don’t have to stay in a hotel. Probably won’t sleep again.

  • The Toyota Tundra that landed in our house

We live on a busy street just north of Dallas.  Friday morning, August 26, a drunk landed in the front hall of our house, taking out the double doors, the study and the garage door.

    WP_000039 (2)

I screamed hysterically when I saw smelled and saw the truck.  Imagine waking up at 2:00 am to find a very large pickup in your house.  I alternated between being upset about the house, telling the driver I was going to kill him and screaming for the dogs.

They were in the truck when I went in the office and grabbed gym clothing while calling 911.  I think I told them there was a truck in my house, and that I didn’t care if anyone was hurt.  They sent EVERYONE out.  Ambulance, fire trucks, police.  Captain Murphy was super.

Husband snagged Macy and tossed her in her room.  Dulce made it to the living room and was crying, Rich was able to find her, hand her to me and I stashed her with Macy.  Maggie apparently followed me, because the firemen found her in her favorite hiding place.  The firemen and I put the dogs in the upstairs cages, and left Maggie alone, as they wouldn’t believe me that she wouldn’t bite them, or hurt them if she did.  She has very little teeth left.

Rich made it out the front window.  We couldn’t go out through the yard.  And we couldn’t go out through the garage.  They had to bring me shoes, since the debris was all over and I hung out on the deck until Rich could open the fence.  Note to self, need a different way to latch the gate.

My first call was to my real estate sister, but she didn’t answer.  Then I remembered that we just got a bill for the Umbrella Policy and it had claim numbers.  So I called them.  They’ve offered us a place to stay, but am hoping to stay here.   They also sent someone to board up the house who is doing an excellent job and building a new structure around the house.

If you want to visit us, you’ll have to call first, and we have to put in some solutions in place.  Also have to figure out how to deal with the mail.
