{"id":374,"date":"2014-05-14T06:52:22","date_gmt":"2014-05-14T06:52:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/diabetes-blog-weekintroduction\/"},"modified":"2014-05-14T06:52:22","modified_gmt":"2014-05-14T06:52:22","slug":"diabetes-blog-weekintroduction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/diabetes-blog-weekintroduction\/","title":{"rendered":"Diabetes Blog Week&ndash;Introduction and What Brings Me Down"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Almost missed it.&#160; Good news, the topic of the day fits where I have been perfectly.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bittersweetdiabetes.com\/2014\/05\/diabetes-blog-week.html\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7202\/13848270005_2f28c2982f_o.jpg\" \/><\/a>  <\/p>\n<p>I have been in a really bad place the past few days.&#160; I got some bad news on Friday and I had to process it.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s back to \u2013 if you don\u2019t hear from me things are really bad.<\/p>\n<p>I know that if I focus I can get myself so that I can be productive as a programmer \/ web designer.&#160; I know that eventually the right thing will come up.&#160; <\/p>\n<p>The problem is, that I get easily discouraged.&#160; It also bothers me that the teaching door is firmly closed.&#160; However, the two positions I had found involved&#160; driving a long way to work and I know I don\u2019t enjoy that either.<\/p>\n<p>I am going to work on the things I love \u2013 creating things, sharing what I have learned about diabetes and my health conditions \u2013 thus I am going on with the website Diabetic Recreational Athletes, or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drecathletes.com\">http:\/\/www.drecathletes.com<\/a> for short.<\/p>\n<p>Dulce won\u2019t go on job interviews, user group meetings or Microsoft training any more but she will go where she is already welcome \u2013 the gym and stores.&#160; They really missed her at the gym the three days I took off and she has always alerted well there.<\/p>\n<p>Good compromise as I read how one young diabetic thinks everyone should have a diabetes alert dog.<\/p>\n<p>I would like to help make that possible too.<\/p>\n<p>Teaching wasn\u2019t a good fit.&#160; It worked well until the past 6 years.&#160; I really had a hard time managing my health and diabetes.&#160; They loved to move our lunches around, they loved to decide to completely disrupt the day by adding assemblies, pep rallies and the like.<\/p>\n<p>I worked all day in a room filled with pigeon debris for most of the past 6 years.&#160; I know that it affected my breathing.&#160; The only saving grace was that the children were only in the room for 45 minutes at a time.<\/p>\n<p>The same people who ignored that, keep piling more and more things on me, even though I told them I couldn\u2019t handle any more.<\/p>\n<p>One of the final last straws was assigning a student to me, and then telling me that I had to make sure he ate breakfast \u2013 the woman who not only can\u2019t eat breakfast anymore and has to drink something warm to get it down until about 11:30, but also it makes me physically sick to watch others eat then.<\/p>\n<p>The last few days was involved grieving losing teaching but not losing that job.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m ready for fun and making things.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Almost missed it.&#160; Good news, the topic of the day fits where I have been perfectly.
