{"id":3893,"date":"2003-04-27T05:26:24","date_gmt":"2003-04-27T05:26:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/diabetes-rant\/"},"modified":"2003-04-27T05:26:24","modified_gmt":"2003-04-27T05:26:24","slug":"diabetes-rant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/diabetes-rant\/","title":{"rendered":"Diabetes Rant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t do this often, but my husband is off on a vacation trip, and a lot of people wonder why I didn&#8217;t go with him.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the fact, I hated Vegas the first and only time I went, and that my AP CS kids have their test on May 7th, traveling sucks.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>How?<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s say I want to spend the day shopping.  I need to take:<\/p>\n<p><UL><br \/>\n<LI>Blood sugar monitoring kit and supplies<\/LI><br \/>\n<LI>Fast acting insulin and supplies<\/LI><br \/>\n<LI>Sugar supplies<\/LI><br \/>\n<\/UL><br \/>\nAlong with all the other stuff people take.  Oh, and you can leave it in the car, I live in Texas and already it&#8217;s hot enough to cook things after about 11:00 am.<\/p>\n<p>But just going to work, adds it on.  And some questions need to be answered &#8212; what if something happens and I can&#8217;t get home for dinner.  What happens if my blood sugar monitor breaks?<\/p>\n<p>So do answer those questions I end up taking:<br \/>\n<UL><br \/>\n<LI>blood sugar monitoring kit, and supplies<\/LI><br \/>\n<LI>spare monitor, and spare supplies <br \/>\n(hey, in the first months my monitor stopped working, I didn&#8217;t trust it and ended up in a hypoglymic emergency &#8212; I do whatever it takes not to go there)<\/LI><br \/>\n<LI>Daily dose insulin and supplies along with fast acting (they all go in the same bag<\/LI><br \/>\n<LI>Emergency sugar supplies, enough for the gym and enough for a bad day<\/LI><br \/>\n<LI>Mini-disc player &#8212; I have to have my Buffet tones and a couple of different mini-disc&#8217;s<\/LI><br \/>\n<LI>Prescription receipts &#8212; I keep them together with a binder clip &#8212; comes in handy if you end up in a federal building or on a plane &#8212; also handy if you have to get emergency treatment<\/LI><br \/>\n<\/UL><\/p>\n<p>So is it any wonder I don&#8217;t want to go on a 1 1\/2 week vacation?  <sigh><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I don&#8217;t do this often, but my husband is off on a vacation trip, and a lot of people wonder why I didn&#8217;t go with him.
