{"id":404,"date":"2014-04-01T13:35:14","date_gmt":"2014-04-01T13:35:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/people-say-the-darnest-things-when-they-see-a-service-dog\/"},"modified":"2014-04-01T13:35:14","modified_gmt":"2014-04-01T13:35:14","slug":"people-say-the-darnest-things-when-they-see-a-service-dog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/people-say-the-darnest-things-when-they-see-a-service-dog\/","title":{"rendered":"People say the darnest things when they see a service dog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dulce and I started going to church two weeks ago.&#160; I think I blogged about the first week.<\/p>\n<p>I would love for this to get out to the world.<\/p>\n<p>First: please teach your children not to scream puppy when they see a service dog.&#160; It\u2019s annoying and disturbs everyone else.&#160; Sadly, last Sunday what appeared to be a functioning adult pulled this.&#160; I could be wrong, we\u2019ve been puppies by handicapped adults before.<\/p>\n<p>Stop them gently when they do it, don\u2019t add to the disruption.<\/p>\n<p>Second: someone suggested that they get a vest for their dog \u2013 was sitting at the next pew so it was hard to get away.&#160; We had sat near them last week so I knew they knew Dulce\u2019s behavior.&#160; I asked if the dog behaved as well, and he said that it did, so hey, bring it on.&#160; I also was wondering if he thought I had done that \u2013 I assured him that she had had a lot of training.<\/p>\n<p>My husband\u2019s answer to that: you can have her chronic disease too.<\/p>\n<p>Third: thanks for the compliment, but no, I\u2019m not training her.&#160; In line with this \u2013 take a minute to read the vest.&#160; Mine has all the information you need to know about her.<\/p>\n<p>Fourth: don\u2019t ask what she is for \u2013 I will tell you but I will also explain to you that you are violating my medical privacy.<\/p>\n<p>Finally: compliments are always welcome, but I\u2019m never sure what to say about \u201cI love your dog\u201d.&#160; I\u2019ve finally decided to say, \u201c Thank you, I love her too\u201d.&#160; <\/p>\n<p>It reminds me yet again about how much public I have made my condition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dulce and I started going to church two weeks ago.&#160; I think I blogged about the first week.
