{"id":636,"date":"2012-09-14T19:05:38","date_gmt":"2012-09-14T19:05:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/diabetes-dog-update\/"},"modified":"2012-09-14T19:05:38","modified_gmt":"2012-09-14T19:05:38","slug":"diabetes-dog-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/diabetes-dog-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Diabetes Dog Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was asked for an update today so sent out the following:<\/p>\n<p>I think well.&#160; <\/p>\n<p>From a medical standpoint my official A1C was <font color=\"#ff0000\">8.1<\/font> when I started working with the dog&#160;&#160; \u00e0 I got a Bayer A1C At Home test and it read <font color=\"#ff0000\">6.7<\/font> yesterday.&#160; I sent that to my doctor and he was quite impressed.&#160; Since I have spent two years over <font color=\"#ff0000\">9.0<\/font> and we were both upset about that, I\u2019m doing much better.&#160; We\u2019ll know better when we get his lab results back, I see him in October.&#160; It\u2019s always best to compare lab results to lab results.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest issue is that everyone wants to pet her.&#160; I explain to them that it is against district policy and against service dog rules and they still pout.&#160; Sometimes people get to her before I can get I also mention how tired she would be at the end of the day.&#160; That helps some.&#160; The cheerleaders wanted her to come to the pep rally and I thought that would be too much noise.&#160; They were disappointed.&#160; I also had students who wanted her to come to the game tonight which I also think would be too much.&#160; I also don\u2019t take her into the cafeteria.&#160; Usually no call for me to be there but yesterday needed some lunch.<\/p>\n<p>She spends her day in the cage, it\u2019s next to my desk.&#160; She is restless when my blood sugar is high \u2013 this hasn\u2019t been a good week between meet the parent and a late meeting last night, I haven\u2019t been to the gym, so I have been a tad high.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve found out how she alerts when she is in a cage at a meeting \u2013 at the AP Kickoff she kept rattling the door.&#160; They told us they would have food and they feed us cookies and brownies from Jason\u2019s.&#160; I\u2019m learning to bring my own food.<\/p>\n<p>I have a few students who are allergic or afraid of dogs.&#160; She doesn\u2019t seem to bother them.&#160; One student in particular is one of my favorites and I thought he was teasing me about being afraid.&#160; He really is, but as long as he doesn\u2019t see her he\u2019s fine.&#160; The others are even less vocal about it.&#160; Most of the day the kids don\u2019t see her.<\/p>\n<p>Bathroom isn\u2019t an issue.&#160; She usually doesn\u2019t go at lunch, usually goes during my planning period.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve taken her small cage to student assemblies.&#160; For staff meetings I\u2019ve just taken her, and she settles down fairly quickly, unless my blood sugar is high.<\/p>\n<p>So far, she\u2019s been to Conrad for the kickoff after school, and to Buckner after school.&#160; When I have to go somewhere else, I do tell them she\u2019s coming.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was asked for an update today so sent out the following: I think well.&#160; From a medical standpoint my official A1C was 8.1 when I started working with the dog&#160;&#160; \u00e0 I got a Bayer A1C At Home test and it read 6.7 yesterday.&#160; I sent that to my doctor and he was quite [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[11],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-636","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-diabetes-alert-dog"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/636","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=636"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/636\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=636"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=636"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=636"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
