{"id":761,"date":"2011-11-09T18:19:48","date_gmt":"2011-11-09T18:19:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/world-diabetes-day-what-does-the-doc-mean-to-me\/"},"modified":"2011-11-09T18:19:48","modified_gmt":"2011-11-09T18:19:48","slug":"world-diabetes-day-what-does-the-doc-mean-to-me","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/world-diabetes-day-what-does-the-doc-mean-to-me\/","title":{"rendered":"World Diabetes Day &#8211; What does the DOC mean to me"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s interesting.&#160; I\u2019m not sure that people realize that I started blogging about diabetes before everyone else.&#160; Except maybe Will.&#160; Not sure about that, but look at the blog history and you\u2019ll see.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m different though.&#160; I\u2019m Type 2.&#160; But I\u2019m the same because I wear an insulin pump and have been exclusively on insulin from the start.&#160; Weird, because I hate needles.&#160; But Metforim was too much like using dice to decide what was going on with me.&#160; Being a control freak, insulin has usually worked pretty well.<\/p>\n<p>But because I\u2019m Type 2, I\u2019m a bit of a victim of the Type 1 \/ Type 2 wars, though Will\u2019s book \u201cBorn again Diabetic\u201d helped me a lot.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve tried the insulin pumpers list, that didn\u2019t work that well for me, but I have the same problem with Lapband user groups.&#160; I am not sure why group therapy doesn\u2019t work for me (might be that control freak that).<\/p>\n<p>I also don\u2019t write for a living (yet, there are still some textbooks cooking in my head).&#160; So I don\u2019t find the need to blog every day.&#160; Besides, I\u2019m a very busy teacher \u2013 should have hung out in my classroom today \u2013 and I have still cleaning up my house.&#160; I\u2019m not sure people realize that when I offer my guest room, I\u2019m sort of tongue in cheek.&#160; Though I have thought about moving into the guest room even after it was destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>So I really admire what the Type 1 kids are doing.&#160; I hope they get a cure, and I think there is a possibility for them.&#160; I still don\u2019t think there is a cure for my particular form of Type 2 diabetes.&#160; It\u2019s a really bad that you don\u2019t get to pick your parents, but my father did have diabetes (diagnosed and died of complications in his late forties), and my mother was diagnosed several years after I was.<\/p>\n<p>I also want to thank the twitter folks for some traveling hints last night.&#160; I haven\u2019t flown in a LONG time.&#160; <\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s in the history, but I was diagnosed with diabetes at 42, about the same age as my dad.&#160; He died of congestive heart failure at 48.&#160; The good news, modern technology and constant monitoring throughout my adult lifetime has gotten me to 51.&#160; Very close to 52.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s interesting.&#160; I\u2019m not sure that people realize that I started blogging about diabetes before everyone else.&#160; Except maybe Will.&#160; Not sure about that, but look at the blog history and you\u2019ll see.
