{"id":890,"date":"2010-09-20T19:17:05","date_gmt":"2010-09-20T19:17:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/getting-to-the-gym\/"},"modified":"2010-09-20T19:17:05","modified_gmt":"2010-09-20T19:17:05","slug":"getting-to-the-gym","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kweaver.org\/diabetes\/getting-to-the-gym\/","title":{"rendered":"Getting to the gym"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Those of you who follow me on Twitter or Facebook, or better yet, Foursquare, know that I have changed my routine and am going to the gym in the morning on the way to school.<\/p>\n<p>I used to do this, but it got really hard when I became a diabetic.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m going because I was finally convinced that I needed to exercise on a stationary bike \u2013 I sold my treadmill and weights and joined @LAFitness.<\/p>\n<p>The best way to fit it in, is to exercise in the morning.&#160; <\/p>\n<p>To accomplish that, I have to pack the night before.&#160; I\u2019m using a dufflebag with wheels I got for my cruise, and that\u2019s working very well.&#160; I tried two bags, but that just got messy.&#160; To go, I have to have:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<ul>\n<li>clothing for school<\/li>\n<li>extra pumping supplies \u2013 so I can take some pumpless showers<\/li>\n<li>shoes for school<\/li>\n<li>hair stuff \u2013 lots of days, especially wet or humid ones, I just need a brush and shampoo but having an option is good<\/li>\n<li>consumer electronics<\/li>\n<li>towels (man I miss my old gym)<\/li>\n<li>contacts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So when I get home I have to clean out the used clothing (which I just remembered I forgot to take out of the bag).&#160; I have been putting the towels out of the bag when I get done so they will dry and I can recycle them \u2013 they have to be washed if they have been in the bag with sweaty clothing.<\/p>\n<p>It also means some extra wash, but recycling my towels helps that.<\/p>\n<p>I also keep a gym bag in the car, which has also come in handy for physical therapy.<\/p>\n<p>Today I managed 35 minutes but at level 1.&#160; I am noticing a decreased use of insulin.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Those of you who follow me on Twitter or Facebook, or better yet, Foursquare, know that I have changed my routine and am going to the gym in the morning on the way to school.
