  • Tax breaks for fitness

Medrants talks about tax breaks for fitness to encourage insurance companies to provide fitness benefits.

Actually my school district is already involved — we get discounts from several different clubs — and payroll deduction. We also get a discount to other clubs through Cigna Insurance, our health care insurance provider.

However, I’ve chosen a gym that is smaller, closer to the house (I have to at least think about the place on the way to work), and is the corporate gym for Club Corp — the largest golf club management company in the country.

Years ago, when I worked at Texas Instruments, they had several corporate gyms convenient to the work place.

So it certainly isn’t a new idea.

And FYI, the easier the gym is to get to, the easier to work out!

  • Still with a glimmer

That five pounds, plus a couple more were missing this morning. It’s always been Monday morning that has been the most frustrating.

Hopefully I’m off the plateau and will STAY off.

  • I have a glimmer of hope

As most know who have been following this, I’ve been losing the same 5 pounds for about 2 months.

  • ..continued

Made it in the pool this afternoon and sort of did 10 laps.

Sort of means that I moved up and down the length of the pool 10 times but I didn’t swim every part of it. Did a lot of water walking.

Blood sugar was at 104 at dinner, so I’m decreasing my daily dosage down again to 28 units twice a day (56 total). Since my high was 36 units (72 total), I’m doing pretty well.

  • Still frustrating — but met my exercise goal

I am still losing the same 5 pounds.

BUT on the good side I met my exercise goals for the week.

  • Carpel Tunnel Surgery

Went to get steriod shots today. Guess what?

Doc wouldn’t do them. They screw up your blood sugar.

Surgery a week from Saturday. He wanted to do it this Saturday but with husband gone I thought best to wait a week.

Not having time to think about it might have been good too.

  • I did something cool

This evening my blood sugar was 176. Instead of adding more insulin, I did 10 “laps” in the pool.

The pool was at 80, temperature was around 90 so it wasn’t too bad. Certainly better than yesterday.

But the cool part? After I got done, blood sugar was at 146.

And I’ve tolerated 58 units very well today, without adding any. That’s down from a high of 72 units of daily insulin (I haven’t taken good track of how much I’ve added from time to time).

  • Stress Rant

If you are not a diabetic, you have no idea what kind of stress diabetics can be under.

I assume it is better for people on oral meds, but I have a feeling there are other stressors involved.

  • Disposing of Sharps

I hate to post about this, because I feel so stupid, but honestly I was just following instructions.

  • Disappointed

I have to say I am disappointed with this service.

For almost all of last week, they had a bug that processed mailing lists incorrectly. That makes me nuts.

Then early this week, my Inbox stopped working, and it took them over 24 hours to fix.

I don’t function well without working email.

So I’ve got my secondary addresses setup with them now.

And I’m using a competitor who they are suing over patents — spamarrest — working as my primary email spam filter.
