Food Pyramid Wrong!

I knew this from the day it came out…

WebMD – Experts: Food Pyramid Diet Not So Health After All

And I’ve certainly found with diabetes, the lower the carbs the better I feel!

I’m not a complete believer in the Atkins form of eating. I think what kind of fat and how much does matter and what kind of protein does matter.

I did experiment with Atkins before diabetes — when I was on Zocor and waiting to stablize on that so we could start the diabetes route.

There was no adverse effect on the cholesterol levels, and no affect either way on the blood sugar. However, I didn’t lose much weight that way.

Right now, I try to stay around 100 grams of carbs a day. I find I function well at that level, and can keep my blood sugar stable with the help of insulin.

Yes, I beleave the pyramid is very wrong. I understand that people do need carbs in there meals. But it should not be the biggest part of the pyramid. Its a fact that vegetables have carbs, vitamins, fiber and does not turn to sugar as quick as bread and other starches. The national diabetes clearing house is still handing out books on the pyramid. There hurting people more insted of helping. Being that you can find the carbs you need in vegetables. Then you should not have to rely on starches that the pyrmaid states should be your biggest intake. Witch also results in your biggest intake of sugar that turns to fat and high glucose levels.Vegetables should be the biggest intake. But not the starchy
vegetables like corn or peas. Because of the vitamins and fibor. Meats should be second biggest on the pyramid. Also a slower brake down of sugar for the body to prosses. Protein that gives energy. Not the quick energy that carbs and sugars give. That energy is the same kind you get from eating candy. 5 min. of energy then your dragging your feet wanting to take a nap.I beleave that milk and yogurt should be 3rd biggest on the pyramid. It has everything that
meat has pluss it helps your bones, teeth and good for nursing mothers. Fruit should be 4th on the pyramid. Fruit has lots of sugars. Yes lots of good sugars. But if you have diabetes, never the less its sugar. Also has fibor, vitamins. Some fruits have acids that can help digestion. The 5th on the pyrmaid should be fats. Like nuts, avacodo,
and some light butter products. Fats are good for the digestive system. Most have protein and help bowl movement.
The 6th thing and sad or scary as it seems, should
be carbs and sweets. Why? Becaues We just decused that you can get fibor from vegetables and fruits.
If you eat more vegetables you won’t need starches. And lets face it. Most starches are man made. Pasta, bread, cake. Everything the body needs should come raw from the earth like it was supost to be. Carbs are sweets. Just because they dont taste sweet, that does not mean the speed of sugar
that enters the blood stream is not the same. IT is the same. Starch brakes down so fast in the digestive system it becomes sugar before a meat or vegetable becomes a sugar.Everything turns to sugar. Sugar is a form of energy. But being most people dont exersize every moment of there life. The quick sugar from carbs and candy turn to fat.
And to make carbs your most important part of your meal will also nuglect the vitmans you should be getting from your meats and vegetables.
So in this point in time I see, no reason why starches should be the biggest part of the
    pyramid.
When it should be the smallest. Fibor is important.
However. Theres iron in chocolate candy and Id never recomend people getting there iron from chocolate. Why should we recomend getting fibor from carbs?
