  • Pump screen damaged

I am really upset and have no idea how it happened.  I left for dog agility around 10:00 am this morning and my pump screen was fine.

It had been in my pocket all day.  My keys were in my other pocket and the only thing in my pocket was some plastic bags.  However my pump screen is scratched so badly that I can’t read it.  It looks like an emery board was taken too it.  Noticed it when I was bolusing when I was finished with the trial.

My first reason I’m upset is that it’s 3 weeks old and I can’t read it!  I’ve never had a pump screen OR cell phone screen scratch like this.

The second reason is I can’t figure out how it happened.

Guess I’m calling to complain on Monday.

  • More Ping and Battery

The pump battery has been showing two bars instead of three so I’ll have to change it soon, probably on the next refill.  NOW I have been going through about 150 units a day lately, so your battery milage should be better.

But two weeks for the meter on regular batterys isn’t bad (and I have lithium in it now) and three weeks on the pump.  Nice to know for planning but I go no where without spare pump/meter batteries.

  • Speaking of Pings and Batterys

Just had to replace the batteries in the One Touch Ping Meter.  Not a big deal and it retained all the memory.

I was right to put AAA batteries in my emergency bag.  I am hoping that Lithium last longer.

  • Almost Two Weeks on the Ping

I got my new Animas Ping and "installed" it Monday, February 2.  Interesting trends — at least my endo liked them and they continue.

As you can see my blood sugar is trending downward and the dots are getting tighter together.

    My TDD sucks though.

Also, no battery changes so far which surprises me.  The meter is on regular AAAs and I use it a lot.

  • Bad Week

I don’t know if it is the weather, the not good news from Monday or what, but I’ve spent the week hurting and exhausted.  Knee has bothered me, shoulder has bothered me, and over all just stiff.

Food hasn’t been good either. Okay at work but am starving as soon as I get off.

Sleepy, early evening but can’t sleep at bedtime.  Too sore to walk.

Decided not to do dog agility today since it is under 40 degrees. Figured neither my arthritis or Maggie would be happy.

On the good side, my blood sugar control has not been the good in a long time. The Ping is definitely good.

  • Good book!

Frankly, I ordered the book after reading a blog entry by Lee who told about his monetary difficulties.  I really believe in what he is doing as his job, and ordered two copies, one for myself and one for my mother.  I didn’t expect to read the book.  Was just doing a good deed for someone who deserves it.

Wow!  It’s a good book and there is good stuff in it.  And it is well written, but of course, we’d all expect that, look at his blog.

So if you have a few dollars to spend and you want to do something good, do your own version of an economic stimulus.

Better yet, if you are looking for some help in managing your diabetes, here is a really good start.

The Born Again Diabetic is written specifically for the previously diagnosed diabetic who has….well, who has fallen off the wagon, as it were.

  • Getting Ready for Surgery

I did get a hold of the case manager and basically I need 3 more months of medically supervised weight loss and a physiological evaluation.  I’ve got an email out to the shrink and if I don’t hear from them in a few days will call.

I’ve picked a surgeon, hospital, and day of the week.  Monday at the same place I had my hands done as it is a couple of blocks from where my husband works.  He can drop me off, go into work, and then come back about a half hour before I’m due out of surgery.  Or even later.

I’m planning to schedule the same sub for a week and start working from home as soon as I’m able.  I usually have a few days of work up ahead for my students anyway.   Then as I feel able to drive will come in and due a few hours.  I’d like to have worked half a day on Thursday or Friday before I come in for a full day the next Monday — and have the sub on reserve just in case.

No problem with sick days, I have over 20.

  • Tweaking

I have been tweaking my pump settings, both basal and bolus amounts.

It’s working.  My morning blood sugars are better.  I’m going to leave them alone for a while and concentrate on noon.

The bad news — my TDD is really going up, but I think with better blood sugar control food cravings will be better.

Also did something very different last night. I’ve been really tired but napping keeps me from sleeping later.  I just broke down last night and bit the bullet.  Went to bed before 9:00 pm knowing that I would wake up in the middle of the night.  Sure enough I did, but only spent about 30 minutes then went back to bed.  I think I am less tired today but I think I need a bunch more days of that much sleep.

I have been feeling bad all week.  Some of it is due to rain, some of it is due to the news on Monday, and some of it is just tired.  Three weekends of dog agility will do it and I have two more weeks to go.  I keep telling myself I can take a day off but the girls have been getting better each time.

  • Shoulder – 3rd week

Today was the first day since Friday that I had to use my shoulder all day.  It was not perfect, but definately is better than it has been, which is a HUGE relief.  But between the storms and the use, I was ready for rehab.  Got a phone from the chiropractor’s office and they wanted to reschedule.  Fortunately just the doctor’s adjustment, he is going to do it after my massage tomorrow.

And the rehab process WAS a huge relief.
