For the non diabetics reading this, I’d say one of the worst things about being diabetic is blood testing.
The difficulty and pain is probably what keeps most diabetics from complying with their doctor’s advice.

Glucose sensing contact lenses offer another exciting approach to glucose monitoring, though these products are still in the very preliminary stages of development.
CibaVision is working on a contact that is clear in color, and will come with a small hand-held device that will measure sugar by detecting fluorescent molecules.
The idea is that the molecules in the contact lens, when exposed to glucose in the tears, will change so that they will reflect light differently.
In a similar vein of research, scientists at the University of Pittsburgh are working on a special gel that has shown promise in becoming a contact lens, allowing diabetics to monitor their glucose levels by simply looking in the mirror.
Depending on the glucose level in the fluid of the eye, the gel changes volume and causes crystalline materials inside the gel to change color.
