Am I the only one?

I keep seeing the news items on the FDA today, working on obesity, and I keep wondering how much energy is being taken away from approving new products.

Hopefully they are completely different departments and issues, but I can’t help but wonder, if it pushing back the approval of the continue glucose monitor.

We need this now. It’s the next step to a closed loop system, but darn it, maybe it would have solved last week. Don’t worry, I’ll do a seperate post.

I can see why focus is also on weight-loss and not just technical solutions. This goes a long way in establishing normalcy without drugs.

I’m not talking about DRUGS! I’m talking about the medical devices that are waiting for FDA approval.
There are TWO, continuous blood sugar monitors that are waiting for final FDA approval — one is the second generation MiniMed CGS — alarms only, no numbers, which I am guessing will be approved first.
The second, which I am holding out for, will be wireless, give real time blood sugar numbers AND alarm.
If you aren’t an insulin dependent diabetic, you don’t know how useful they will be.
Imagine being the parent of an insulin dependent diabetic child and wondering if your kiddo is going to hit a low and not wake up?
Imagine being an adult insulin dependent diabetic with the same problem?
Right now, if I want to know my blood sugar, I have to punch a hole in my body, stick a test strip in the blood, and wait?
The good news, is that they did approve a medical device today — different committee.
