Another first — battery change

I was a bit worried about changing the battery on my pump. Okay, the first time doing everything along has been a bit scary.

The whole — pump has to have a battery thing bothers me. I’m a bit anal about batteries anyway, every since I went to a AP grading to Clemson state and arrived without Palm Pilot batteries and NO place to get them. Had to live without it for 2 days. Major withdrawal.

So anyway, this pump (Animas) does make a hideous sound when it is out of battery. I’ve heard it once, when I first got the pump. But the good news, is that the battery lasted 9 weeks and a day.

9 weeks of pumping 60-90 units of insulin a day, site changes, and downloading data. Not bad!

The batteries aren’t cheap, but I did find a source of inexpensive on Ebay — go to Ebay and do a search on insulin pump and it will come up. I’ve put a set of those in, and I’ll let you guys know how well they lasted.

Heh, Just happended to drop past this weblog by accident. I also have the annoying as all hell animas pump. The batteries last me bout 2.5mos, when I first got the pump it gave me many of it’s nice little BEEPING SESSIONS lol. After a few months I have gotten the hang of it and less beeps. The good thing about the annoying sounds is that it will wake you up if there is a problem yet my alarm clock has trouble doing that. Finally the biggest trick is getting it to shut up which I have found out the best way to do so is rappidly press the enter key.

yea, that’s what I meant. I like the idea of changing the battery before it needs changing I’m going to try that after my next battery change.

I wouldn’t say that the pump itself is annoying, just the battery alarm, and since it’s a matter of life or death.
I figure the solution to the problem is changing it just before the battery needs changing, so 8 weeks works for me.

Like all alarms on it the IR1000 starts with a regular beep and only escalates to the alarm sound if you don’t confirm the alarm.
Having said that the first time I got that siren on my daughter’s pump I almost had a heart attack.
