  • Good book!

Frankly, I ordered the book after reading a blog entry by Lee who told about his monetary difficulties.  I really believe in what he is doing as his job, and ordered two copies, one for myself and one for my mother.  I didn’t expect to read the book.  Was just doing a good deed for someone who deserves it.

Wow!  It’s a good book and there is good stuff in it.  And it is well written, but of course, we’d all expect that, look at his blog.

So if you have a few dollars to spend and you want to do something good, do your own version of an economic stimulus.

Better yet, if you are looking for some help in managing your diabetes, here is a really good start.

    Quoted from http://www.redbloodcellbooks.com/rbc1.html:

    Red Blood Cell Books

The Born Again Diabetic is written specifically for the previously diagnosed diabetic who has….well, who has fallen off the wagon, as it were.

  • Getting Ready for Surgery

I did get a hold of the case manager and basically I need 3 more months of medically supervised weight loss and a physiological evaluation.  I’ve got an email out to the shrink and if I don’t hear from them in a few days will call.

I’ve picked a surgeon, hospital, and day of the week.  Monday at the same place I had my hands done as it is a couple of blocks from where my husband works.  He can drop me off, go into work, and then come back about a half hour before I’m due out of surgery.  Or even later.

I’m planning to schedule the same sub for a week and start working from home as soon as I’m able.  I usually have a few days of work up ahead for my students anyway.   Then as I feel able to drive will come in and due a few hours.  I’d like to have worked half a day on Thursday or Friday before I come in for a full day the next Monday — and have the sub on reserve just in case.

No problem with sick days, I have over 20.

  • Tweaking

I have been tweaking my pump settings, both basal and bolus amounts.

It’s working.  My morning blood sugars are better.  I’m going to leave them alone for a while and concentrate on noon.

The bad news — my TDD is really going up, but I think with better blood sugar control food cravings will be better.

Also did something very different last night. I’ve been really tired but napping keeps me from sleeping later.  I just broke down last night and bit the bullet.  Went to bed before 9:00 pm knowing that I would wake up in the middle of the night.  Sure enough I did, but only spent about 30 minutes then went back to bed.  I think I am less tired today but I think I need a bunch more days of that much sleep.

I have been feeling bad all week.  Some of it is due to rain, some of it is due to the news on Monday, and some of it is just tired.  Three weekends of dog agility will do it and I have two more weeks to go.  I keep telling myself I can take a day off but the girls have been getting better each time.

  • Shoulder – 3rd week

Today was the first day since Friday that I had to use my shoulder all day.  It was not perfect, but definately is better than it has been, which is a HUGE relief.  But between the storms and the use, I was ready for rehab.  Got a phone from the chiropractor’s office and they wanted to reschedule.  Fortunately just the doctor’s adjustment, he is going to do it after my massage tomorrow.

And the rehab process WAS a huge relief.

  • Learned Something

… don’t schedule endo and dietician in the same day.  And if you do, you probably do want to schedule the shrink but then you’re left with enough data to process for a month or more.

Am I the only diabetic that walks into the endo office expecting him have a new something that will fix everything and make it all better?  Well, mine didn’t today.

I thought from his scales I had maintained my weight, but no such luck.  Found out at the dietician’s that I had gained a pound.  And I really wanted to lose weight.

Oh, and my dietician ran off to join the circus.  Not Barnam and Bailey Circus but the Alli’ circus.

So I am off — processing data.  Back when some is analyzed.

  • Big Medical Day Tomorrow

I am going to the endo, getting a depo shot at gynochologist, seeing the nutrionist and the shrink.   Needless to say, it’s an all day ordeal.

Originally was going to see the endo about the new pump.  However, Animas called early and said they could process the order.  I’m really glad it worked out this way, as I have lots of things to ask about as to the new pump.  I’m using a lot more insulin and I don’t know exactly why.  Though it might be because I am a) testing more and b) correcting more, and it might even have something to do with the ever increasing A1C

I don’t think I’ve lost any weight.  In fact, I’m afraid I’ve gained, so we’ll see about that tomorrow.  Also, this will be the halfway mark towards being able to make a decision on weight loss surgery.  I have some more questions about that, as there are things I need to get straight in my mind as I make that decision. Also want to see if there is anything more the dietician can help me with.  I am honestly believing the sleep issue is the biggest now, but I have been getting to bed earlier than I was.  Just don’t think I”m getting enough quality sleep yet.  Think I should make an appointment with the pulmonary specialist for Spring break.

  • Shoulder – Yes Better.

Not perfect but better.  One of my commenters said he thought he had the same sympthoms and wondered if the chiropractor helped.

If I am not using the computer and not driving, I’m fine.  Driving aggravates it — the angle is off and the vibration of the car makes it worse.  I still hurt when I use the mouse but not as much.  I’m really looking forward to this week.

Basically I’ve been going to the chiropractor twice a week, get hooked up to a machine and my nerves jump (PT did that for my knee), ultrasonic therapy and then a good rub down.  Then an adjustment by the chiropractor.

One day a week, usually in the middle get a 1/2 massage from his therapist which really helps.

  • Agility Weekend

Good news — 7 out of 8 runs my dogs ran in the same general direction as I did.  Still getting lots of refusals from Maggie — that means she approached the obstacle but didn’t take it.  She’s usually double checking.

The 7th run – Maggie, she decided the photographer was evil.  He said she might be right.

Yes, Macy’s nose is on the ground but she is making progress in the same direction and sometimes takes an obstacle on purpose.

Also, I’m still able to do both days.

Two more weekends of agility, then we get a break.  Yeah, I could stay home but the weather has been nice and who knows, we might Q.

  • Having an arthritis day

Everything aches.  And walking is hard.  I hate winter weather change days. I never seem to have this problem in the summer, or maybe I just don’t remember it.

In the past, I gave up on walking on this kind of day, but today I’m doing something different.  I have to do the laundry anyway, SO I’m walking 4 minutes at a time.  Not fast, but 4 minutes and then I stop.  By then the pain is too bad.

Hey, at least I am getting a work out down.

Shoulder getting better, but still hurts.
