  • Day 2 Breakfast

I had Egg Cheese Pesto pizza.  I’m usually not good with solid food in the morning, but this worked well.  Baked apple as a side which the Facebook group complains about.  It liked.

My blood sugar has been fairly smooth according to the CGMS.  No big excursions.  I still have trouble with evening eating, but will be working on getting better food in the house for that.

  • Dinner day 1 and a decision

Dinner tonight was Portabella Lasagna.  It was good.  It was only 20 carbs and was lasagna accompanied by vegetables.  It was very filling and quite good.  Easy to eat with the lap band.

I've decided to get a second weeks food.  Husband is going to buy his own food as they don't have a dinner only plan.  The cooler situation is a bit unwieldy.  I'm looking for some place to take it for recycling.  A neighbor is picking up this weeks cooler.

My blood sugar has been very smooth.

I am disappointed that the nutrional information isn't in MyFitnessPal or Fitbit log.  I called the 1-800 number about it, and they suggested I use the website.   I'm not sure where I was supposed to go –it's been a few hours and really not finding it.  I'm going to keep pushing on this.

  • Web MD Video

I’ve already posted this on Facebook, but to be honest, I feel both a bit inspired and a bit of a fraud.

    http://www.webmd.com/diabetes/manage-type-2-insulin-16/video-manage-diabetes-kathleen-weaver

First, I haven’t been the person with my diabetes under control for a long time.  One of the reasons I’m retired now, is because the diabetes had been out of control for several years before I left the classroom.  But seeing the video makes me remember that person and inspires me to get it back under control.

More when I get back from Waterworks class.

  • DietToGo Initial Signup Process

I went out to to the website – http://diettogo.com/ and went through the initial signup process, but stopped at the actual checkout since it was set up to automatically start Monday and I already have that week coming.

That whole process was very easy and straight forward.  If multiple people in the household want to sign up, each has their own account which makes sense because of the support.

The website is very pleasing to the eye, loads fast and is easy to navigate.  I think my mom could figure it out and she is technology challenged.  They also have a 1-800 number but I haven’t used it yet.

They do give a 10% discount which just about covers the shipping.  Pricing wise is pretty comparable to someone who eats out of the time, about the same if we do a lot of prepackaged meals, which we have been doing lately.

They have a higher calorie level for men, which is probably what I’ll order for my husband if we like it.

For me, shipping FedEx isn’t a problem – I use an attended mail service which emails me when things arrive.  It’s safer since we live on a busy street.

  • Updates

Things have not been working right for me lately, so I'm trying some new things.  Some are working for me, some aren't.

I have been going to Baylor College of Dental and have had some interesting experiences, but they are helping me with my teeth, making it easier to chew — that should help the lap band.

So then I branched out to Parker Chiropractic College.  They have been helpful, though right now, I'm stalled.  Waiting on a lab test, and the student I am seeing said something about Irving.  Not going there.

And I just heard that the blog isn't working right.  So this is a test.

  • Statin Muscle Pain

I think I have it.  I am not sure how long, because I’ve been blaming my pain on my arthritis.  I didn’t realize it was muscle pain and not joint pain until I did yoga.  I was doing great or close to great until this winter and have been steadily going down hill, being able to less and less postures.

I was miserable in Alaska and said something about it to the Aetna nurse who call and checks on me every few months.  She said call your doctor when you get off the phone and I left an email message.  They called back and told me to go off it for a few weeks.

It’s not overnight relief but I am feeling better.  I did more postures yesterday than I have in about two months.  Was able to do all the down postures except Tibetan table – that one scares me.  And did all but 3 of the standing postures.

It’s the arm pain that’s tipped me off the most.  I just haven’t been able to hold my arms up.  However, I have no trouble doing strength exercises.

Looking forward to feeling even better.

  • Numbers are going in the right direction

Coming home from the cruise was awful.  I made the mistake of not getting a wheelchair assist from the cruise terminal to transportation to the airport.  There was a huge line and it was seriously messed up, I think we were in line for 1 1/2hours, and that is where I had my 4th low.  So it took me a week to recover.   Seriously.

My legs still hurt pretty bad when I sit too long or when I first get up in the morning.

I’m making a conscious effort at moving and changing things up but I need to work a bit harder at it.

I skipped an agility trial I was entered in today.  Too much effort involved with little return.  The beagle girls do not like to compete when I’m in pain.

I do have a new project coming in 2 weeks I’ve very excited about.  It was first brought up in September and for reasons that are totally out of control, it’s finally happening.  More on that when I pick it up.

But the good news is that I am back at Yoga and  I have been doing two workouts a day – either yoga and water works, or  yoga and gym which includes weight and cardio workout.

  • Home again

Didn’t get around to doing much blogging on the cruise.

While the internet was great when it was up and I could login, it was down a lot.  Mostly when we were in or close to port.  Oddly enough it worked really well at sea.  Not bad when at sea is where I prefer to be.

The lines that existed the first day went away.  Probably as the crew learned their roles.  We could see even in our stateroom that each day the cabin steward got a bit better at his job.

I got a massage one day – at a reduce rate to listen to a sales pitch.  Also got keratin treatment on my hair.  I did buy product from them, and am really happy with the way my hair looked.  I’m used to a Brazilian blowout, which I’ve already decided I’m not doing again.  This was between a hot oil treatment and the Brazilian blowout, not near as hard on my hair.  When she got done, my color looked amazing.

Rich REALLY enjoyed the poker cruise.  His hours were quite annoying, as I kept to my hours as much as possible.  But since that was the reason we went on the cruise that was great.

We saw bears on the only shore excursion tour we took.  We had Mount Roberts tram tickets which we used, but I didn’t enjoy.  It was so crowded and so about “money, money, money”.   Lovely display of an eagle by a rescue group that you got it – wanted donations, and lots of gift shops.

All in all, we enjoyed the cruise and I’m trying to decide which cruise line I want to try next – probably Norwegian.

The trip home was hard – our plane was almost an hour late taking off, and the port itself was extremely disorganized. But we’re home and glad to be here.

  • Being without the service dog

I had NO idea how much Dulce helps.  This is the last trip I take without her, and probably the last time I’m out without her.

People ask about alerts, and she does alert, but she really doesn’t has to.  Instead she does some very subtle things that keep my blood sugar stable.  She’ll slow down, even stop when we are out doing things.  I tend to push myself too much when I’m without her.  She doesn’t let me do that.

She also keeps me out of situations where I get into trouble.  Example:  the Mount Roberts tram.  They put us in a huge crush and a woman shoved into my side, right where my CGMS is.  Felt like getting stabbed.  If she had been with me, they would have put it is a less jammed situation, I’m sure.

So it’s more of a case I read her rather than she alerts me.  Good things to know, especially for the new pup, and for anyone else I’m helping train.

  • I had a really low blood sugar in the Yukon

I haven’t had a need to treat blood sugar for a long time.  Before Dulce was trained.  And yeah, she isn’t with me.  Yes I’ve had lows, but it meant move a meal closer because Dulce alerted early.

I had the large Sweet Tarts with me and glucose tablets.  The Sweet Tarts are 6 carbs, the glucose 4 carbs.  It was eat a Sweet Tart, wait.  Eat, wait.  About every 4th one, it was a glucose tab.

Finally after about 3/4 of the roll, I plateaued and started going up.  And up.

Scared the Jesus out of me and made me furious.  Furious I’d left Dulce at home, furious that had made a mistake somewhere, furious I was scared and in the middle of no where.

The people with me haven’t helped:

I feel criticized because I went low out in the middle of nowhere, but people, this hasn’t happened in years and I had what I needed.  I had the sugar.  It’s just that I wanted to eat closer to the event, but I probably couldn’t have.

My husband is the reason I left Dulce behind.  He hasn’t a clue and his way with coping with things is ignoring them.

Rich cancelled both of our shore excursions we’d booked in Victoria, but I would like him to go.  We on this trip for him, because of the poker thing.

But I’m fine and I’ve told Rich:  Dulce is going everywhere now, not being left at home. And hopefully Jamie can take up the slack.
