  • School to allow diabetic to take daily gym | Philadelphia Inquirer | 11/19/2009

The Downingtown Area School District agreed yesterday to allow a Lionville Middle School sixth grader coping with diabetes to take physical education classes every day, as his family had requested.

Argh! I hate this. I'm a high school teacher dealing with remedial kids who can't use computers.

I would bet money these kids were pulled out gym. computer class etc. so they would get extra math/english time.

However this kid is getting opposite.

If I were the parent, I'd find a before school exercise program. skip the school gym program and have him in extra reading but that's just because I know what not being able to read goes for you.

  • Good practice last night!

Macy did some really nice courses very well last night. Our only problem is back to the tunnel from the dog walk, partly because I’m not really sure what to call it and didn’t call it soon enough. She did MUCH better our second time around.

    I’m definately moving faster.

  • Saw a post on Twitter that deeply disturbed me: Look who else has #diabetes It’s official – we R everywhere!

I’ve removed the link because there is no indication on the website that the individual has diabetes, Type 1 or otherwise.

First, the tone is a bit congratulatory. I’m sorry, but a diagnosis of diabetes should never be treated as a celebration or a good thing. Also, I don’t think someone should be outted, unless they announce it themselves, and again, I see no indication on the website.

And if it is true, my condolences, you can make it but it isn’t always easy.

  • Agility – A good day!

    No Qs, but

Macy tried very hard today to stay with me, even though I'm still quite slow.  I did have to work for almost every obstacle but she got through every one with the exception of the teeter.  She's still very scared of them, especially at a trial and got all four feet on, took a few steps and bailed.

    Making progress is good!

  • World Diabetes Awareness Day (Tomorrow)

According to an old teacher handbook, this is spirit day and we're supposed to wear spirit shirts.  I always wear red on Friday's, but not this Friday.  Besides the fact that I think the blue nails will clash, I'm wearing blue for diabetes awareness.

Sadly no one has had the guts to ask why my nails are blue, but oh well, maybe they will ask about blue today, but I'm not sure any one really notices that I always wear red on Friday's.

  • November Daily Posting

Got a bit burned out posting on Monday and didn't get to it on Tuesday.

SO, I moved one of my Monday posts to Tuesday, added a comment to another Monday post and posted it a few minutes ago.

Basically, I'm exhausted and just hanging in.

  • Diabetic Alert – Be very careful at McCafe

Apparently some McD employees don't know the difference between a Mocha and a Latte — it has happened twice now at two different McD's.

Here's the biggest problem.  A Latte has 18 carbs, a Mocha has 58 carbs, which WILL cause a hypo if you get the wrong drink.

And yeah, avoiding the mocha all together is the best idea, but they taste too good.

And then today, I got a hot chocolate, no coffee! (Wednesday)

  • Hawaian Nail Bar – New place

I started getting my nails done on a regular basis this summer.  Probably last spring.  It's a little thing, but it does make me feel more put together, and it forces me to take a bit of a time out each week.

Also the massage chair is good.

I was going to a place within walking distance from my house, but it's dirty and the new people managing just aren't as nice as I would like.  Example:  the last time I visited they didn't tell me that it would be at least an hour later, I could have left and come back.

I was at the phone store and noticed that a new place was under construction called Hawaiian Nail Bar, being a Jimmy Buffet fan, it looked interesting.

They have the BEST spa chairs.  Adjustable front and back, up and down.  They massage good.  They look easy to clean.  My favorite is to have a spa pedi and manicure.  Seems to save time, takes a little more than an hour.

People are REALLY nice, but you do have to remind them of things.  It truly is a bar, and they give out watered down drinks, which is fine with me.  I had a margaritti yesterday and the hint of lime and salt is just enough.  Not equal to the margarittia I had at the Mexican place on Saturday, but fine for getting nails done.

Did I say the people are nice?

The service is okay, the receptionist is a bit flighty but they get the job done.

Highly recommended, we have about 6 in the area — I go to the one in Addison on Belt Line.  My friends at school are going to try the Greenville Avenue, they do have good internet reviews.

  • Saturday was interesting

I left in as long as I could, then piddled around with Windows 7 on my curriculum notebook.

I had a Bandster's support group at 2:00 pm — interestingly enough, at a Mexican restaurant.  Had chips, chimichanga, eating the guts, and a bit of the shell and broken down and got a frozen margaretti, haven't had one in years and it was good.  Good company and good help.

My biggest problem right now is sleep, I'm only sleeping about 6 hours a night, no matter when I got to bed, and I've got a message out to my sleep doctor about it.  My mask is due to be replaced on the 19th, and it might be as simple as that.  I also asked if there were new masks.

By the way, I decided to go back to Windows XP on the curriculum , didn't have two major drivers.
