I don’t do this often, but my husband is off on a vacation trip, and a lot of people wonder why I didn’t go with him.
Besides the fact, I hated Vegas the first and only time I went, and that my AP CS kids have their test on May 7th, traveling sucks.
How?
Let’s say I want to spend the day shopping. I need to take:
- Blood sugar monitoring kit and supplies
- Fast acting insulin and supplies
- Sugar supplies
Along with all the other stuff people take. Oh, and you can leave it in the car, I live in Texas and already it’s hot enough to cook things after about 11:00 am.
But just going to work, adds it on. And some questions need to be answered — what if something happens and I can’t get home for dinner. What happens if my blood sugar monitor breaks?
So do answer those questions I end up taking:
- blood sugar monitoring kit, and supplies
- spare monitor, and spare supplies
(hey, in the first months my monitor stopped working, I didn’t trust it and ended up in a hypoglymic emergency — I do whatever it takes not to go there) - Daily dose insulin and supplies along with fast acting (they all go in the same bag
- Emergency sugar supplies, enough for the gym and enough for a bad day
- Mini-disc player — I have to have my Buffet tones and a couple of different mini-disc’s
- Prescription receipts — I keep them together with a binder clip — comes in handy if you end up in a federal building or on a plane — also handy if you have to get emergency treatment
So is it any wonder I don’t want to go on a 1 1/2 week vacation?
