  • Happy Thanksgiving

Husband and I are going to have a quiet celebration together, this afternoon at Lawry's.  After, I'll come home and put Christmas bells on the beagles, and we'll put up the Snoopy ornament in the front yard.

My mother and sister are going to visit my mother's family — we tried that one year but it doesn't work well for us.

Thanksgiving is about recharging for me.  I've been in front of people since August.  Students, teachers, coworkers, and even dog agility people.  Being at home, quiet and working on projects works for me.  I've already updated two websites:

    http://kweaver.net

    and

    http://kweaver.org

This break has been about training dogs and getting new photos of Macy.  Not all are back yet, but when they are, they will be up.

In two weeks, we are going to be entertaining my inlaws (sister and brother).

  • Dietcian Visit

To be honestly I have been completely frusterated lately with my lap band.  It got so bad I cancelled my personal trainer last week and went to support group, even though I've been getting even MORE frustrating hearing that others are losing weight and I'm not.

I'll be honest, this last fill has been tough.  There are lots of things I can't eat, and I'm having trouble eating in general so I've been defeating the band.

The good news is that the dietcian helped and didn't tell me I was all wrong.

I've been working on a McDonald's Mocha all morning.  It's the only way I can stomach any kind of caffeine and I need it.  Her only problem, is that I really need more protein, so I need to either add a Slimfast in the morning or find another way to get 10 grams of protein.

She also doesn't find ice cream too bad, and thinks I ought to do a non-fat cone from McD's on the way home.

She thinks that will help how I feel in the evening and she thinks I should wait until about 6:30 to eat and then find a way to get some more protein in before I get to bed.

    Sounds like a livable plan.

  • Good agility class

We had a larger group than usual, since class is cancelled for Wednesday and Thursday, and we had a good practice, much higher energy which was the instructors goal.

Macy tried hard, but got drastracted a few times.  She's been working hard all weekend, so I am not very upset with her.

  • Visitation was very different. Was what my church would call a eulogy. It was interesting.

Dog class was great. I did a day of Hollywood dog class, and I got an idea on how to work on my major problem, WHICH would be really good for her to get a modeling gig.

Most people work stays close then add duration and distance. I’ve decided to work my stays at a distance (she will down and stay and stand at a distance), and work my stays from there. I think my movements may be less distracting (She is a small dog and I am very large), and I think it might be easier. Basically I’m back chaining the stay.

And like I said, will make it easier for her to get modelling gigs.

  • School to allow diabetic to take daily gym | Philadelphia Inquirer | 11/19/2009

The Downingtown Area School District agreed yesterday to allow a Lionville Middle School sixth grader coping with diabetes to take physical education classes every day, as his family had requested.

    via www.philly.com

Argh! I hate this. I'm a high school teacher dealing with remedial kids who can't use computers.

I would bet money these kids were pulled out gym. computer class etc. so they would get extra math/english time.

However this kid is getting opposite.

If I were the parent, I'd find a before school exercise program. skip the school gym program and have him in extra reading but that's just because I know what not being able to read goes for you.

  • Good practice last night!

Macy did some really nice courses very well last night. Our only problem is back to the tunnel from the dog walk, partly because I’m not really sure what to call it and didn’t call it soon enough. She did MUCH better our second time around.

    I’m definately moving faster.

  • Saw a post on Twitter that deeply disturbed me: Look who else has #diabetes It’s official – we R everywhere!

I’ve removed the link because there is no indication on the website that the individual has diabetes, Type 1 or otherwise.

First, the tone is a bit congratulatory. I’m sorry, but a diagnosis of diabetes should never be treated as a celebration or a good thing. Also, I don’t think someone should be outted, unless they announce it themselves, and again, I see no indication on the website.

And if it is true, my condolences, you can make it but it isn’t always easy.

  • Agility – A good day!

    No Qs, but

Macy tried very hard today to stay with me, even though I'm still quite slow.  I did have to work for almost every obstacle but she got through every one with the exception of the teeter.  She's still very scared of them, especially at a trial and got all four feet on, took a few steps and bailed.

    Making progress is good!

  • World Diabetes Awareness Day (Tomorrow)

According to an old teacher handbook, this is spirit day and we're supposed to wear spirit shirts.  I always wear red on Friday's, but not this Friday.  Besides the fact that I think the blue nails will clash, I'm wearing blue for diabetes awareness.

Sadly no one has had the guts to ask why my nails are blue, but oh well, maybe they will ask about blue today, but I'm not sure any one really notices that I always wear red on Friday's.

  • November Daily Posting

Got a bit burned out posting on Monday and didn't get to it on Tuesday.

SO, I moved one of my Monday posts to Tuesday, added a comment to another Monday post and posted it a few minutes ago.

Basically, I'm exhausted and just hanging in.
