Trying out Apidra

I went to see my CDE today — she’s been a bit concerned since I have been having higher blood sugars.

While I was there, she asked if I would try Apidra — I think it’s a clinical trial for their office only, but not sure. She said it would not be available until January but could provide me with free insulin if I would let her know how it works.

It’s supposed to be more rapid acting than Novalog.

I’m a good guinea pig for them, because I am “glucose sensitive”, allergic to Humalog, and use quite a bit of insulin.

So far, I have noticed it goes into the pump a bit smoother — I can feel the Novalog when I do a bolus and did not feel the Apidra.

FYI: She says Apidra is piglatin for rapid.

My name is Carolyn West, I live in Searcy, AR. I have such tremendous news to share with other diabetics. I told my doctor that I would be his new poster child. Only, I’m 55, ha.
I was recently put on an insulin pump, my very first HGB A1C was 6.1 !!!!!!!! It is as if I have a totally new pancreas, just on the outside instead of inside. For the first time in my life I feel normal, My blood pressure is under control, and my meds were cut in half, then half again.
It is amazing for either type of diabetes.
I am us Apidra insulin my pump. This is the greatest news!!!! I have lost 20 pounds in two months of wearing the pump, and that was a totally sedintary lifestyle, due to an accident.
I am so UP, I don’t thlnk I will ever come down.
When I was not seeing a diabetic specialist, my HGB A1C’S were 13.3, then with going on low carb,,,,,,,less than 20 grams a day,,,,,i gradually got it down to 8. They had a hard time explaing to me that I NEED carbs, and that I could ACTUALLY eat them….
I hope this is good news for some,,,,,,and I hope that everyone could be on an insulin pump.
I have been a nurse for 28 years,,,,,,,I AM STILL LEARNING.
    Kindest Regards,,,,,,,Carolyn West
